I feel worse after watching this crap:-(

I watch everything that comes out, but this movie particularly left me feeling worse as a human being.

It was quite unpleasant from start to finish: everybody on screen is a horrible person; their stories are full of hate and anger for no reasonable source; they are told through a series of screaming and nasty and stressful scenes; it didn't give me anything other than this feeling of being sorry for belonging to the same species as these characters on the screen.

What an achievement in filmmaking! (Or was this intentional? Then maybe it has some value, but it would be more valuable if this intention was integrated in the movie somehow more skillfully).

There are plenty of Michael Bay movies for you. No thinking required

reply

Since that's how you fashioned this reply, you must be an expert of that.

Some people think that if you didn't enjoy a certain movie that they did, you're just too "stupid" or you "didn't get it" or they can "read into" scenes more than you or something. These people are annoying. You just didn't enjoy it as much and you're entitled to your opinion.

reply

This person is stupid though

reply

I know, thanks for the support.
Their replies are a comment about their own intelligence, rather than the person they are trying to insult.

reply

Yeah I see that a lot here, don't like the movie I like? WELL YOU MUST BE A FAN OF MICHAEL BAY AND HIS EXPLOSIONS! always gets a laugh out of me. It's always michael bay too, isn't there other directors whose movies are allegedly of more spectacle than substance that people can accuse people of being more suited for?

reply

I do believe that is intentional. It is supposed to be unpleasant and stressful. I thought that it was very well acted and the filmmakers accomplished what they were trying to do.

reply

It didn't stress me out like that.

It made me feel happy to live my simple life in a rural area.

reply

I agree.
I feel like there was a dark nasty film enveloping me after watching this.
Not a good feeling. Bad.
I know part of a movie's objective is to invoke thoughts and feeling, but these I can do without.

reply

Given your username, I have to wonder if you were a Breaking Bad fan. Because I'd bet some people had that sort of reaction to Breaking Bad. (Or maybe your username has nothing to do with Breaking Bad... I'm aware there was a historical figure as well.)

reply

Yeah I'm not really much into physics, nor it's my last name, so....
BB has many dark and unsettling moments. They are part of what the show is about, they are integral part of what the series exposes and the reality that it's portrayed. Not to mention that every character is well rounded and his motivation are clear and understandable and reasonable, and when they get to be horrible, there's a logic to it.

I've never hung out with jewellers in NY, but I lived there for 4 years and I don't remember that every person is as horrible and borderline psychotic as in this movie. And we're not talkin about meth cooking and dealing here, it's just some legal gem trafficking. I don't see the nastyness and the hate as part of what this movie is about, infact a contrast with somebody remotely human could have helped to illustrate how horrible they were much more effectively than having everybody scream for more than 2 hours straight. So it felt overdone, unnecessary and it didn't help the movie message in general.

reply

Agree @Heisenberg

reply

i feel everyone is screaming because when the movie starts, we are already at the boiling point and things just gets worse from there.

also this being movie about just the horrible people, there are plenty of classics with similar theme godfather being one of them. raging bull, gone with the wind, barry lyndon etc.

reply

Any of those movies, and many many others, should not be mentioned in the same sentence as this total turd.
All the characters in those classics are horrible yet realistic people, and their actions fall in a wide spectrum of emotions, from stressed, to angry, to loving. They are not just acting like crazied poo-flinging apes wall to wall for two hours.

reply

I didn't think that while watching the movie, but you have a point in the first paragraph. Yet, I wouldn't put this movie with any of films you mentioned.

Actually, I was thinking how things could go this bad like it did even to New Yorkers and many have died from COVID-19. After about 45 mins into this, I wanted Sandler's character to get his face bashed in instead of ending up in the trunk. Later, we see him end up in the hospital, broke and in heavy debt, getting divorced, but still alive. He deserved it. Everybody loses what they put up. Fade to black.

reply

It is one of my favorite movies of the year, but for the same reason you disliked it so. No other movie has ever really made me feel that way. It felt like what I want horror movies to do to me, as in making me feel constant dread and be constantly under suspense throughout the entire runtime. Pretty understandable if someone doesn't view that experience as pleasurable, and telling someone to watch a Transformers movie instead is pretty elitist if you ask me.

reply

Yeah, I thought the film was really intense and really had me engaged film; like an action film in which the action is all quick reactions and fast responses. I enjoyed it immensely.

reply

I hated and loved this movie at the same time. That's how a good movie should be to arise emotions. Overall I thought the movie was depressing. It's a powerful drama. Not for everyone. That's why conflicting comments.

reply

It was an effective and tense drama about a shady guy's world falling apart, the camera work was perfect, the NYC street scenes were gritty and authentic and Sandler was simply amazing

10/10 imo

I grew up in California on the beach and never experienced NY-NJ until I was an adult. I couldn't believe how they would talk to each other and how loud everyone was. Everything was a major issue that required people to fight and bitch. It was sensory overload.
