I feel worse after watching this crap:-(

I watch everything that comes out, but this movie particularly left me feeling worse as a human being.

It was quite unpleasant from start to finish: everybody on screen is a horrible person; their stories are full of hate and anger for no reasonable source; they are told through a series of screaming and nasty and stressful scenes; it didn't give me anything other than this feeling of being sorry for belonging to the same species as these characters on the screen.

What an achievement in filmmaking! (Or was this intentional? Then maybe it has some value, but it would be more valuable if this intention was integrated in the movie somehow more skillfully).

I can totally see why you might feel that way. I'm born and raised in New Jersey and essentially know every character in this film so there wasn't anything surprising or dramatic to me considering the world this takes place in. I found it humorous that *SPOILERS* that Sandler's character got shot in the head, but it was very unrealistic unless the mobsters made sure they could capture the girl with the money on her way back.

What you have experienced is culture shock watching this movie and nothing less.

Your take on my problems with this crappy movie makes some sense, I agree there is a degree of culture shock to it. I lived in the village for 3 years, so I'm no stranger to New Yorkers, which were a bit weird and colorful but nothing close to the assholes seen in this.

But yeah, the culture I'm not familiar with is this cutthroat "business" world they try to depict here. I doubt real life jewel marketers are this rough and mean and evil to each other and to other people in general, or they wouldn't even have a business to run, but I guess like you said it in some part of the planet there are characters like these.

I just don't see the need to make a movie based solely, start to finish, on this kind of emotions. People ridiculize Michael Bay for explosions or action start to finish, this is not much different.

I feel the same way. I had to turn it off when the guy couldnt even open his own door.

you will just love Solondz's "Happines"

reply

Happiness is at least far from its creepy characters. Solondz always distances our pov from the material.
So we can even laugh at the horrid situations, if it's the case.

No such perspective is present in this shitfest.
