Seriously, the ending of the film was starring them right in the face, the final boss should have been Jabba the Hutt and it should have solidified Han’s alliance with him which would serve as the perfect Segway into how we first meet him in A New Hope. But no it had to be Darth Maul for some unknown reason and they have to tease a sequel which is never going to happen.

shareI don't think they were teasing a sequel, I think they were just trying to segue it into the next part of the story which would have been relatively minor before you have the first Star Wars movie.don't really see how running some illegal goods for Jabba the Hutt could be made into a sequel
shareUhhhh they managed to squeeze a movie out of practically nothing the first time . They absolutely were teasing a sequel, there are still plenty of empty gaps between solo and ANH
shareDude, the Jabba reveal would have been epic. Certainly would have gotten the reaction they clearly desired where as Maul left most just scratching their heads.
shareDarth Maul is a much more interesting and powerful character than Jabba the Hutt
