Did this show get good in the end?

Looking back on my Netflix account I bailed half way through episode 3 of Season 5. I just couldn't take it any more. It was a bit like The Walking Dead, just aimlessly meandering along without any real purpose...

However I'm seeing loads of traction for this show as it reaches it's conclusion - some even calling it fantastic television which surpassed Breaking Bad.

Any truth to this? Should I give it another go? Is it possibly just some kind of self justification for those who rode it out to the end? Or did something fundamentally change in the last two seasons which made it better?

Season 5 and 3 were the best, season 6 was a pile of shit outside of a couple of episodes. Finale ruined the show

Chuck died at the end of season 3 is that right?

Yeah, I think I watched 4 after that to see the fall out but I think Chuck leaving maybe ended the uniqueness of the show, in terms of Jimmy's character. After that I think it became more setting up Breaking Bad / fan service rather than focusing on him.

I just gave up on it tonight after watching the season 5 finale. I don’t understand why they wrote Saul and Kim to evolve into purely evil actors who decide to destroy Howard who seemed like a decent guy. I have no interest in watching protagonists who have unredeemable black hearts. You can find that anytime in the real world news. I don’t find it entertaining

Same. The characters were interesting and/or fun in the beginning, but it got pretty tedious later on.

It seems to be a very polarizing series. I didn’t like the early seasons, but I very much enjoyed the final two seasons, and thought the finale was perfect.

It was great throughout, with excellent writing and acting. But it did drag on too long before he becomes Saul Goodman, and then rushed too fast to wrap things up once he did. I would have like to see more of peak Saul Goodman, helping bad guys escape the law by outsmarting the local DA and cheating in court.

The last season was good (if not the slowest one of all) but the last few eps and the finale were terrible. Saul turns into a white knighting cuck at the very end just so the show can make a point that we already knew they headed toward for years, but took eons to get there.

I loved the entire a show! At the end it does indeed give BB a run for its money.

However, as others have stated here I too didn't take any pleasure in seeing Jimmy/Saul & Kim turn evil towards the actually quite likeable Howard (felt bad for the dude for what happened to him).

This was an outstanding show, I loved it. The writing was absolutely superb, direction spot on, acting extremely good etc. I didn't get the feeling that any scene was wasted, it all counted toward something. I loved it.

I think the ending felt a bit empty because we lost the great supporting cast for last few episodes. Bob Odenkirk could carry the show all by himself, but I missed the supporting cast.
