Way too many snubs this year

Obvious Snubs:
Best Supporting Actor-Ryan Gosling
Best Supporting Actress- Emily Blunt, Danielle Brooks, Jodie Foster (your pick)
Best Animated-Spider-Man-Across the Spiderverse
Original Song- I'm Just Ken
Best Score-Indiana Jones
Best Editing-Poor Things
Best Visual-The Creator

Other Notes:
1)Godzilla Minus One was the best film of the year. It should've gotten far more nominations with the one it won being purely memes.
2)It's clear Poor Things ruined Barbie's night.
3)The Color Purple deserved more nominations

Anything else I'm missing?

reply

Nothing Oscar-worthy. Most of these movies are forgettable or mediocre. I doubt if anyone will care about any of them 50 years from now which makes a movie deserving of an Oscar.

reply

Are you arguing that Barbie's Ken performance wasn't Oscar-worthy and iconic?

reply

Nobody would argue that. It wasn't.

reply

look at Mr Contrarian over here

reply

Any animated movie going toe-to-toe with a Miyazaki movie isn't "snubbed" if it loses. To each their own - if you preferred Spiderverse, that's fine - but snubbed? Into the Spiderverse won Best Animated Feature, so it's not like the Academy are just ignoring Spider-man cartoons.

reply

I couldn't even understand why Emily Blunt was nominated, let alone being worthy of winning the thing. The character was underdeveloped and the performance was nothing special.

reply

Biggest snub all award season was Milo Machado-Graner from Anatomy of a Fall.

reply

He was very good, but so was the mom in that movie.

reply

Well she was nominated.

reply

Godzilla won best visual effects or did you mean best cinematography?

reply

Ryan Gosling? LOL, don't make me laugh.

On what basis was he "snubbed"?

He should have won because he was "funny"? Because his acting was so convincing you really believed he was f-cking doll?!!

reply

The two best films I saw in 2023 were Golda and Godzilla Minus One. They BOTH should have been nominated for at least a half dozen Oscars. Golda was nominated for zilch, while Godzilla Minus One was only given a token door prize nomination for Best Visual Effects. BLEH!

reply

I am pretty steamed about the whole Godzilla thing too! There has always been serious underrepresentation of giant, atomic lizards in Hollywood award shows, and I'm plum fed up with it.
