"Bond" is dead, 007 can now be ANYONE.

As we saw in NTTD, a black woman (pretty, talented actress who was convincing as an agent) was 007.

Bond was, and should always have been, a caucasian Scot-Swiss former naval man. Not any other race, that's not racism, it's the invented character.

007 is different, MI6 would replace a lost agent to fill the post, as with any job. That could be any race or EITHER gender, so long as they pass recruitment.

I think the classic lines about/to Bond will be missed, and the womanising etc, but still.

But, as these ''Bond'' films are about profit, the casting depends upon what will be most acceptable to the public, and of course make the most $$$.

reply

It's the 'Bond' character that people go to see (not his number)

No-one is going to see a movie about someone that merely shares/inherits the same 'OO' number.

Eon need to remember such?

Bollocks. Bond's Scots background was a retcon, written into the series by Fleming in homage to Connery AFTER he had seen him playing the part on-screen.

reply

That really depends on how the double O numbers are assigned. If it is a file number assigned to an agent, then it won't be re-used, the new agents get new numbers. For example, what happened to 001 to 006? You don't see them coming back.

So I think if Bond is dead, 007 is dead too.

reply

What about end credits of NTTD which spefically said in the end "James Bond will be back" (or something like that), not "007 will be back"

reply

How? His X genes are going to be activated or is he going to be an agent of undead? Or are we are going to start dealing with time machines or parallel universe?

reply

Reboot! Reboot! Reboot! And besides, Bond franchise has never been too hot on continuity. NTTD was just an end to Craig's storyline.

reply

I agree. That is probably what they are going to do.

reply

obviously some "Alien Resurrection" shit gonna happen.

they'll have to reconstruct from his DNA purely becasue none of the new agents are able to ride a motorbike across the top of a Mediterranean tiled rooftop .
A key skill in MI6 recruitment documents.

reply

Bond should never go too science fictiony, they should have learned that by now. (Moonraker being an exception to the rule).

reply

yes, it was just my little joke .
Although some of those gadgets are pretty science fictiony - like the invisible car recently.

reply

Yes, Die Another Day is one movie in which they went too far. Altough the killer satellite was realized better than in Diamonds are Forever.

reply

Nah he just survived getting blown up because he's James Bond. No other reason. He will just turn up in the next movie. No questions asked.

reply

Yup. Daniel Craig will be back. He’ll find a magical bomb-proof frig in the last seconds and hide inside. ;)

No need to recast!

reply

They are just going to reboot the franchise again. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Pierce Brosnan comes back, just please do not do a Bond multiverse, that would be horrible.

reply

People…..Bond is white. Superman……is white.

Shaft is black. Blade….is black. Black Panther…..is black.

Don’t fuck with these things. Stop being SJW and trying to shoehorn your woke agenda into these iconic characters.

Just develope your OWN iconic characters…….you pussies.

reply

Oh back in 2019 when the woke SJW’s were creaming their pants over the rumor that a black woman was going to take over the franchise and play James Bond (which turned out not to be the case) I actually said that exact same thing: Just make a new franchise with a woke, black female super spy and the response I got was this: Black women have been shut out of Hollywood for so long that it’s not fair that they should have to make their own franchises, and I”m like WTF?

reply

I've always thought that's a bit of an insult to Black, Asian, etc, actors, basically saying they're not strong enough to carry their own character/franchise and can only take over a part where all the legacy work has been done by a white actor. I'm sure there are Black, Asian, etc, actors perfectly capable of carrying a franchise from the off. Create something for them. Of course, the stumbling block there would be that Hollywood would need the balls to go with an original IP (shock), and not yet another sequel to an existing one. That's probably the real reason they want to race-swap existing characters!

reply

Right but Lashona Lynch’s character wasn’t James Bond so I didn’t have a huge problem with her. What I did have a problem with was the characters were making a big deal about the 007 codename which to them shouldn’t be a big deal at all, it’s only significant to the audience so I felt like they were breaking the 4th wall which is bad writing.
