So much for "Get woke, go broke". This movie is going gang-busters at the box office.

The fact is, the Bond of yesteryear is old and on its last legs. Without changing to the times and to new audiences, it would have faded into irrelevancy by now. It would have ended up dead and buried like the John Wayne westerns. Kudos to the writers for recognizing the need for inclusivity and diversity.

Check your numbers again.

The movie made $115M in the opening weekend, international. Approximately, a movie makes 50% of the total box office during the opening weekend. Let's say the final international will be around $250M-$300M, including China too. Add $150M-$200M in US. Round up, and final will be close to $500M.

Break even? After delays, overbudget, and huge overspending in marketing, the movie needs $800M to $900M just to pay the bills.

It's not a bad box office, but it's not good enough for a movie this budget. It's still a FLOP.

"B b b but muh diversity! B b b but muh peg da Patriarchy!"

I hope you are right.

reply

He is.

This film has to make $900 million to not be considered a flop. Just like Star Wars sequel trilogy films had to exceed well above $1 billion just to break even because they had marketing budgets alone that climbed upward to $600 million.

But it doesn't matter if it is a flop (it will definitely end up being a flop as word-of-mouth spreads and people find out what happens in this film).

Amazon bought the whole thing for just under $10 billion. They will keep making woke Bond films as part of their regressive ideology to corrupt the youth of the next generation.

No hes not , every film he considers woke to him has to make 900 million, said the same about shang chi , utter fucking bull shit

In the case of Shang-Chi, the calculation was $600M to $800M to break even. It got about $400M (a bit less). And yeah, it was another flop.

900 million to pay the bills my ass , fucking learn how the BO work numb nuts , you want it to fail because it has people of colour and females staring in it , what over spending in marketing? You havent a clue.

By mid-2020, the studio had already spent $300M.

By 2021 and because of the release, add at least $100M to $150M marketing, total will be around $400M to $450M, which means they need $800M to $900 box office just to break even

reply

why add an additional 100 to 150 million for marketing? oh yeh , to fit your agenda

Check the article I linked before opening your mouth. They spent $70M in marketing before the pandemic, and that wasn't even a full worldwide campaign. Those $70M were only the warming up before the real campaign.

How much do you think a full worldwide marketing campaign costs? $100M to $150M to fit my agenda? I was rounding down. Probably, it was more than that.

reply

That's actually a good point.

Most global marketing campaigns average between $180 and $240 million for blockbuster films these days.

Interesting link. Thanks.

The original marketing budget was 73 million , why would they spend another 100 million on top of that ? give me facts, show me the marketing budget for No time to die

reply

The original marketing budget was 73 million

They had already spent $70M in marketing, months before release, and you're saying the total marketing budget was 73. Ahem. 😂

That number is probably the amount that was already greenlighted and committed by the moment the movie was delated, months before release date. After delaying, they probably saved some bucks with some last minute cancelations, thus the small difference. But the real marketing campaign kicks in when you're close to release. As I said, those $70M were only the warming up.

reply

Prove it ?

reply

Why did I link before an article talking about the budget that was already spent before delaying? Why did I have to tell you to read it? As I said a few comment above, and it seems I have to say it again: «Check the article I linked before opening your mouth.».

Why do you hate white people so much? Most of your posts are drenched in racism and anger.

reply

Except it's not woke, not yet.

They've set it up for the next one to be, so time will tell.

reply

Showing Bond as a dumb loser which ultimately failed at solving problems isnt woke? Craig always was just a woke crybaby which failed at almost any problem he had to fight. But now he failed ultimately. Showing how old white men cant do anything correctly or solve any problems.

reply

The truth is that it wasn't as "woke" as the trash trailer suggested. So, one could just as well interpret the decent box office numbers as audiences being pleasantly surprised at how benign the woke bullshit was.

reply

The results are way less then expected, cause they need at least $ 900 million to get even. And there are a lot of people still dont knowing how dumb and desastrous this movie is. Its like with Last Jedi. Many ordinary people thought that this is a new Star Wars movie (and not the worst desaster ever released within the franchise) and preordered tickets. Thats where they get the amazing box office results for the first weekend. And then, when it become known that this was pure trash, the box office results crashed as fast as never before in the franchises history. What that further meant was that Solo became the first ever Star Wars movie losing money and Star Wars IX got even less money then an almost indie movie like The Joker!

So yes: Its Get woke, go broke. And no, being dumb and full of hate never wasnt in any "time" successful. And giving being dumb and full of hate a new label like "inclusivity" or "diversity" (beside that neither of both are fulfilled with this new fascists) doesnt change a bit about that fact.

reply

Where have I heard this before? 🤔

Oh yeah, with Black Widow and Shang Chi. They had strong opening weekends too. Then they fell sharply in the following weekends, got anything to say about that, op?

*crickets* Yeah, thought so.

reply

The big test is if it grosses near the 800 million - 1.0 billion that Spectre and Skyfall grossed. Right now I would say "no way"
