Bond #7: Henry Cavill

Man of Steel star Henry Cavill has suggested he is eager to replace Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond.

A recent rumour had suggested that Tom Hardy would be stepping into 007’s shoes, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

Speaking to GQ, Cavill seemed to suggest the role of Craig’s successor was still vacant, and put forward his own name for consideration.

“If [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity,” he said.

“At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting.”

While Cavill and Hardy are often cited as frontrunners to portray the super-spy, the franchise has repeatedly faced calls to re-cast Bond with a non-white or female actor.

The Wire star Idris Elba is one of the other names that has been most linked with the role.

Craig’s final outing as Bond, No Time to Die, is scheduled to release on 12 November 2020, having been delayed by around half a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

You can't be Superman and James Bond. That just wouldn't be fair!

reply

Either (Hardy or Cavill) would be a great choice. Cavill really opened a lot of eyes in MI: Fallout.

Reminds me when Cavill appeared on Graham Norton around BVS time and he brought up cavil being linked to bond and said 'but superman and bond.. wouldn't that be abit greedy?' and Cavill went 'greedy..or awesome?'

reply

Ha ha, that's funny.

Joking aside, I wouldn't mind Cavill - maybe a bit beefy, literally more superhero than spy, but I think he'd look the part more than Hardy...

That is hilarious.

Cavill isn't very interesting and is a mediocre actor. Hardy is a much better actor and would be a better Bond.

reply

Cavill would be the Lazenby/Moore/Brosnan type.. Hardy be the Connery/Dalton/Craig type

reply

Agree completely, I'd rather have Cavill tbh but with Hardy as the main villain, as Brosnan was to Bean.

Cavill seems almost too "perfect". Bond is supposed to have an edge to him that I'm not entirely sure he could pull off. Bond was never supposed to be a pretty boy in a suit but then again it would likely be a welcome change for the female demographic after having to look at Craig's dumpy face & charm free performance for the past 14 years

I'd rather have Hardy, but Cavill would be fine.

I don't typically watch recent Bond films, but I do love Tom Hardy. He'd make a great Bond, or a great Bond villain.

Cavill and Hardy are both too buff to be Bond. In the books, the character was described as having a more wiry build. Michael Fassbender would fit the physical type very well.

reply

I was gonna post Fassbender is too old, then I looked up his age, that beard does him no favours!
