anybody else think hangman stole the show?

I do. I think he really dominated every scene he was in, even over cruise. he just had that certain onscreen charisma some people have when they are really nailing a role.

i also predict he will go on to be way bigger after this; mark my word.

reply

Nah, his performance was over the top and corny. Trying too hard to play the stereotypical arrogant douchebag.

reply

Interesting. Didnt hit me that way at all.

Fascinating how people see different things.

reply

Agreed.. and he was super cheesy

reply

This.

Which one was hangman?

Which one was hangman?

the stereotypical arrogant douchebag, of course

I actually liked the performance just fine -- by the film's end we see his true nature, a stereotypical arrogant douchebag through and through who'll still have your back when the chips are down

reply

Thanks for replying, but my post was tongue in cheek. Asking who the character was in response to a post that he stole the show.

reply

He wasn't the stereotypical male beta that took crap and sulked, like they love to portray males these days... you know, Bob.

Can't even be a proper bloke without criticism and wanton manufacturing to degrade a gender from some ex tech ops....

reply

Hangman : American "can do" determinism and cockiness personified !

reply

Over the top and cartoony.

reply

I don't know where ya'll are getting that from. The whole damn movie was over the top, lol.

reply

Yeah. So that really says something when he out over-the-top the over the top movie.

It was a pretty stereotypical portrayal of arrogance, completely on the nose as if it was a parody. Perpetual side-smirk? Check. Gnawing on a toothpick? Check. "Well well well, look what we have here" type line readings? Check. The way he played it was just short of mustache twirling villian.

reply

but dude, what is wrong with any of that? This was not godfather pt IV lol

i guess we saw different movies, or maybe we have extremely varying tastes

i say, he stole the show

you dont know me but i have a knack for predictions. you write it down and get back to me in 5-7 years

reply

-Never said anything was inherently wrong with it, but in my opinion the performance was over the top and cartoony. And apparently I'm not alone in that interpretation. He was a walking movie trope.

-Any prediction you may have isn't exactly going out on a limb. The doors become wide open for just about anyone involved in one of the all-time box office successes.

Yiure a pleasure to interact with

reply

Why do you say that? Because I disagree with you? That was a weird comment lol

reply

no, because you're coming off as being contrarian for contrarianism's sake

reply

How do you get that?

I disagree with your take, and I listed valid reasons why. Nobody is right, nobody is wrong.

Again, clearly I'm not alone in my assessment.

So just because I didn't come on this board to be like "Hell yeah" just makes me a contrarian?🤔

Labeling me without valid reason feels a little like when having a discussion with a woman and they start tossing the word "mansplain" around because they think it's a trump card.

What I'm getting out of it is: "Here's my post, so agree with me. If you don't, you're just a contrarian. I'd you do, please post your sentence of agreement so I can validate my own side."

reply

Im overreacting. Must be horemones or something.

Please forgive me.

reply

Ok. No worries. I do think the thing we can agree on is that this is a fantastic sequel. Saw it twice in the theatre and then again when it became available to stream.

reply

The whole cast did great in their part. I agree, yes. Hangman stole the show. Also, we should expect to see Glen Powell in more main stream movies he is awesome in this movie. He has been rumoured to play the MCU's X-Men's Cyclops, hope to see him play that character.

reply

He was like a second rate Iceman to me. It was a good performance but the actor lacked the charisma of Val Kilmer.

reply

Have you seen Thunderheart? I just watched it the other day, was pretty good.

reply

I think I saw that years back but should re-watch it.

reply

Mustang, i thought hangman was meant to be representing slider not iceman. But now that you said that yiu got me reconsidering....

reply

I can see that as well, he is more subtle than Iceman, has more of a sidekick vibe to him. The actors looks and style reminds me a little of Ryan Reynolds.

His arrogance though and ambition is all Iceman to me. In case I was getting that wrong I just looked up the character and it confirms he is supposed to be a Iceman type on the Maverick Wiki page.
