This is great news. Phoebe is a very talented performer and she will do justice to the legacy of Indiana Jones.

If not trolling, then yes, definitely a dumbass.

Except she isn't Indiana Jones, and this is an Indiana Jones movie. To be fair, Harrison Ford is too old to reprise the role, so they should just let the franchise die. If they want Waller-Bridge in this type of movie, they should write a script for her and put the name of her character in the title.

reply

Harrison Ford needs to be in the movie in order to pass the torch to Phoebe Waller Bridge.

In my opinion, this will make the franchise even better. She will be superior to Indiana Jones in every single way.

reply

Or they can start anew with her in mind. Let the Indiana Jones franchise die a peaceful death.

reply

So now Indy and Bond are being replaced by women. What’s next, The Terminator? Oh wait…

reply

No! NO! NOOOOOO!!!

God, make it stop!!!

Why the fuck does this kind of shit keep happening?! Literally nobody is asking for this!

reply

Does it matter??? After Harrison retires from the franchise let them do what they want. We don't have to watch it...

reply

Well, I mean, I would prefer it if the Indy franchise was not stomped into the ground and actually continued to be good and enjoyable to watch.

reply

Yeah but after this film it will enter the 1970's and Indiana will be getting too old to adventure and by the early 1990's he will have lost an eye and be extremely old. So if this new character has adventures that have nothing to do with Indiana why should it bother us??

reply

My hope was actually that they reboot the franchise with a new actor and then keep it perpetually in the 20s and 30s. Indy really has no business existing beyond the 30s, or perhaps the 40s at the latest. Once you get past that he really is a character out of his time.

Provided the the movies are actually made well and enjoyable, I'd be happy with them taking the Bond approach and letting a new actor take a crack at the character every few movies.

reply

No. I would rather have a new character created. Too many iconic characters have already been recast with mostly lukewarm results. Besides I'm getting too old to begin following another new indy franchise.

People can have adventure after the 1940's. I thought it was interesting seeing Indy in the 1950's (twice now actually, once in the young Indiana jones chronicles as well)

So I think it will be cool seeing him just before 1970.

reply

As far as I'm concerned they've already fucked up the perfect record with the fourth film so there's nothing left to protect. Might as well have fun with the character and see what can be done.

And I really can't stress how much I think Indy should be a pulp hero of the 20s-40s and never leave that time period. The romance of that era just cannot be reproduced in modern times. But you are certainly welcome to your opinion.

reply

I agree...

reply

makes no sense. why her? i never seen anything with her that i know of. she's not america's sweetheart as far as i'm aware. what makes her the best pick for the next indy?

reply

But like, she literally can't. She's starring with Indiana Jones so they'd probably just spin her off into another movie.

reply

Cindy Anna Jones

Indiana Jones is a man. The character cannot be played by a woman. It's a dumb idea.

There is a very simple solution to all the complaining about a woman taking over the role of Indiana Jones. You don't like it? Do what I do when someone makes a radical shift that I don't like in a movie. Ignore it. Don't attend the theater showing it. Problem solved.
Besides, I have noticed that a lot of films that did something stupid or ridiculous to pander to the idiots who think we should erase all of Hollywood because they don't like what a film did 40 YEARS AGO failed at the box office.
