They left out the most iconic part of the franchise

The B(.)(.)BS.

reply

We can only hope some enterprising soul will make a nude patch for this movie.

reply

They kept the iconic moans, ice axe, and jumps though.

reply

This no boobed babe is beautiful but completely wrong for Lara Croft. As someone who's played every Tomb Raider game, I must say I'm very disappointed. Her iconic part was her rack along with her supple appeal and fragile beauty. Alicia has just hints of all these but nothing full. She was the totally wrong choice for Lara Croft.

Angelina Jolie was a great choice but story and movie were crap. Here, the movie seems good but the actress is a compromise.

I'd have expected better casting. A bustier woman really.

reply

Basically, I've always known the franchise as Boob Raider. Nothing to raid with this chick though.

reply

"Fragile" beauty? For an action heroine? Seriously? And big boobs get in the way of being really fit enough to pull off all the stunts she did.

reply

Men🙄

reply

What's with that comment? Are you being sexist (as well)?

Evolutionarily speaking, men have been always fascinated by busty women and there's no exception here nor anything wrong with it. It's in our biology.

And anything this is a fictional char drawn a certain way. Why change it? There's loads of talented well endowed women who'd fit the role of Lara Croft really well. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

reply

No,i'm not beeing sexist. As the matter of fact i'm a tomb raider fan since '96

By the way,the big boobs you're such in fond with doesn't make Lara who she is

reply

No, it absolutely does. Tomb Raider isn't a text game. Lara Croft is visual. Her breasts were definitely a part of her standout feature.

To alter it means it is not Lara Croft. I don't understand what is wrong with breasts? Why the taboo around it?
It's just a part of the human anatomy used for nourishment for babies and doubling as an evolutionary feature of attracting mates. There's nothing bad in casting a woman who fits that bill of well rounded breasts as depicted in the games. There's nothing bad in having both men and women want to see Lara Croft played by someone with larger breasts and be one of the defining features, among others, of Lara Croft.

reply

The big boobs were only a glitch in her development

Core Design wanted to fix it but Crystal Dynamics had other ideas

And no her boobs aren't her defining feature

reply

Glitch or not, it is how it made it in the final textures of the game and subsequently became a standout defining feature of Lara Croft. Her boobs are absolutely one of her defining features.

If you don't acknowledge that, then you're either being purposefully naive or ignorant and you don't know Tomb Raider Lara Croft.

It's like putting a skinny bony guy for Hulk and claiming muscles are not Hulk's defining features.

reply

"I don't know Lara Croft"!?

Lad,is her determination, her charisma, her entire personality that makes her one of the most beloved character in the history of video games, not her boobs or did I mention the dual pistols, yet?

Except he's right... ONE of her various defining features was her big boobs. Nude Raider was a hugely popular thing back in the 1990s, and Lara Croft was pretty much everywhere in pop culture at the time. All over magazines, all over the internet, even all over TV (hence the Angelina Jolie movies).

A large part of that was due to her sex appeal, and a large part of her sex appeal was her big boobs and sultry English accent.

reply

Hulk is obviously defined as being huge and having big muscles. You need a better analogy.

reply

>men have been always fascinated by busty women and there's no exception here nor anything wrong with it.

Thats not true. The split seems to be about 50/50 in what figure (big milkers and ass or slim and fit) men prefer. This seems to hold true from limited historical information we have (such as paintings of "beauties").

Its true that biologically a woman is more likely to be able to breasfeed well if she has more space for the milk (thus higher infant survival rate), but like many other features we have made that obsolete via technological advancement. Big bottom is still advantageous because it allows for wider gap during childbirth, thus decreasing risk of killing the mother in the process. Despite that, however, evolution did not select out the small and fit ones.

reply

They never got in the way during the previous Tomb Raider-s. Do you even get what Tomb Raider is?

reply

IDK I'd take a fit girl with abs and a tight butt over big breasts. Makes more sense for the character anyway.

reply

Nobody cares what you'd take, and nobody said you couldn't have both. The point was that the tig bitties are ICONIC of the Tomb Raider franchise.

reply

Because, of course, big breasts are ESSENTIAL for raiding tombs...

reply

Do you have a comprehension problem?

I say "the boobs were iconic of the character Tomb Raider."

You say, sarcastically, "boobs are essential for raiding tombs" -- as if to imply that I said that was the case, when you know damn well that I didn't say that. Do you not know what the word "iconic" means? Do you not understand that story characters have attributes that have nothing to do with practical / logical concerns?

Superman had a cape, and a giant S on his shirt. No, he didn't need the cape to fly or the S to tell people he was super duper. But if you make a new Superman movie, you're going to retain those attributes strongly associated with the character.

The obvious joke is that Croft's breasts, like Superman's cape, are an attribute -- however unlikely -- that became strongly associated with the character. Why are you being such a humorless Kant and trying to teach us moral lessons like "Judge people for more than their boobs"?

reply

[shrug]
I got used to later episodes of Justice League from the TV show, and the video games where Superman did away with his cape. Not to mention trading blue and red on his costume for black and white.

reply

You cant have big boobs and ass (both are basically large lard repositories) and be slim, tight and fit. So no, he cant have both - noone can.

reply

Since everything but the breasts doesn't count for anything, maybe you guys should settle for watching re-runs of Three's Company. Loni Anderson's role, in one critic's words, was to "stand there with her breasts sticking out."

reply

Yes, she was supposed to be a "dumb blonde" that attracted shallow jack. If she was a flat chested brunette who like to talk about the symbolism in Moby Dick, then NO, it would not work.

reply

So, apparently it is not possible to have any female version of an Indian Jones type character that doesn't have a big rack. Sorry, I thought it was actually about "raiding tombs," or making important archeological finds.

reply

"apparently it is not possible" ??
Why do you keep making statements like this?

Do you really think that I or someone says it is not possible to make an Indiana Jones type character blah blah blah?

What part do you not understand of the simple assertion, "Big breasts are iconic, historically, of the Lara Croft character"? ICONIC, not necessary. LARA CROFT, not any other character. It's a very simple statement. You might disagree with the statement, but why do you feel the need to imagine it to be saying something else?

Apparently "Relic Hunter" with Tia Carrere is also included in the big breasts necessary category. Is there another "tomb raider" type character that I'm not aware of that doesn't require "iconic" big breasts? If so, I'd love to check it out. I seriously doubt all the other "well endowed women" who supposedly would have fit the part better could have DONE THEIR OWN STUNTS, which suggests that a realistic choice is exactly a very fit, athletic woman. By the way, training and being fit tend to cause women to have smaller breasts, as breasts are largely fat. You may notice this in ballerinas, ice skaters and dancers, marathon runners, etc. Smaller breasts work just fine for feeding babies, incidentally.

reply

Holy crap.

Do you not actually know what the word "iconic" means? Why do you keep conflating it with "necessary"? And did you not understand the comparison I made to Superman's cape?

"OMG U DON'T NEED A CAPE TO FLY! And why does Mighty Mouse have a cape when it doesn't help you fly? APPARENTLY someone thinks a cape makes you fly when they should actually have WINGS or JET PACKS. By the way, cotton capes are woven from cotton wool, which is picked off the cotton plant, and enslaved people picked cotton at one point. Slavery is bad."

reply

Judging by the fact that the main complaint about this movie is that the breasts aren't large enough, the fan boys are the ones conflating "iconic" with "necessary."
Unfortunately, a lot of women enable this predilection by undergoing the butchery of breast enlargement surgery, in which the nipples are sliced off and re-positioned to look "normal." Of course, the nipples then no longer have sensitivity.
By the way, Angelina Jolie had both her "iconic" breasts removed due to breast cancer risk concerns ;).

reply

The OP was only one word and it triggered you and you lost the plot immediately.

reply

I'm not going to lie.. I did notice that our heroine's chest wasn't as "boxy" as Lara Croft's in the first Tomb Raider game that came out in 1996 (although TBF, 3D graphics back then were more.. "boxy"). Ditto with Angelina Jolie vs. Alicia V., former is more "out there" or "pyramid" shaped as well. However, I didn't let that get in the way of me enjoying the movie.

We get plenty of other similar situations where they get new actors (e.g. numerous James Bonds over the decades, Jodie Foster no longer playing Clarice in Red Dragon as she did in Silence of the Lambs, Alex Trebek shaving off his trademark mustache, and IIRC Vanna White even wore slacks/pants on a few episodes of Wheel Of Fortune), and while sometimes, it's can be a bit of a shame, it's done out of necessity, or not so much so, but you just deal with it as best you can.

reply

All of which is needless and pointless stating of the obvious and unremarkable.

reply

Big breast necessary!! For god sake🙄

reply

Well it's apparently too hard for the casting director to find an actress with massive triangular / pyramidal boobs as iconic as the original Lara Croft...

reply

You can google boobs for free, no need to buy the franchise for them.
