10 reasons why my country is pathetic.

1. We've only qualified for the World Cup twice.

2. We have 0 wins and 0 points in the 6 games we've played.

3. We have only scored twice in our World Cup history. One of them was an own goal, the other was within the first two minutes of the game where we were beat 4-1.

4. We have conceded 12 goals in 6 games.

5. Our women's team can beat the men's team.

6. This is considered our golden era and we had a -5 goal differential in this World Cup.

7. The only team we played well against finished 3rd in the group.

8. Cody Gakpo has scored more goals in the World Cup than my country has scored in their history. And I don't even know who Cody Gakpo is.

9. Our best player in history is currently playing and he has missed just as many penalties than total goals he has scored.

10. Tottenham could easily beat them.

Is it now the third most popular sport in Canada? Does it get good viewing figures on TV? Are kids playing it or playing that Lacrosse game?

reply

No one plays lacrosse. Soccer a.k.a. football in Canada and more popular than NASCAR, Formula 1, boxing and probably American football.

reply

You couldn't not have a job at Tottenham, could you? Spurs could beat Canada if we put out our Under 21s.

reply

is that gimp arsenal?

reply

Maybe Chelsea or West Ham

reply

I'll take the Tottenham job. I couldn't do any worse.

reply

It could spur you on.

reply

I'd love to take them from no trophies to further having no trophies.

reply

They were a little unlucky (and maybe naive).

reply

I wasn't. I expected them to get a point at most.

reply

If you want to see something absolutely PATHETIC look what Germany did in this world cup....

reply

Come one, Germany is out but won the last game 4:2 against Costa Rica.
And Spain is lucky that they're in the next round...looked different for a short.

reply

Ja, aber es ist eine richtige Blamage gewesen...und was Spanien betrifft sehe ich auch nicht da eine Mannschaft die die Meisterschaft gewinnen kann....na ja...gute Nacht

reply

Don't see a "Blamage" (humiliation) there.
Germany made mistakes but didn't stumble over the field.
Sometimes you dish it out, sometimes you need to eat it.
Next: Analyzing the mistakes and making it better.

Anyhow, my favourites for this Worldcup were neither Spain nor Germany.
But of course I hoped for a little more.

Gute Nacht! 🌜

reply

Alles gut 😉 schönes Wochenende!

reply

Germany is only out because Japan won by scoring a goal that shouldn't have counted.

reply

Why shouldn't it have counted? They did an extended replay and it was a good goal.

reply

The whole of the ball hadn’t crossed the line, so……

reply

At the time they kept showing the same angle and it looked like it crossed. I saw a other angle after I made the comment where it still looked in.

reply

It was very difficult to see, need to give that to the referee(s).
Anyhow, it's over.
⚽ "After the game is before the game." ⚽

Perhaps there's now a Japanese "Curse of Qatar".
As the English "Curse of Wembley". 👻 ☺ 👻

11. No one really cares about soccer in Canada.

reply

I question number 5. My country's women's team is the reigning World Cup champions, and they were beaten handily by a team of boys aged 15 and under from the Dallas area. I certainly hope your men's team isn't so bad that they can't beat the national women's team... beyond that, yeah Canada's team blows. But you have hockey!

reply

"5. Our women's team can beat the men's team."

Of course this is a complete lie.
Any semi-professional male football team is capable of beating the BEST female football team in the world.
This is a known fact.
The top female football teams practice several times against male football teams, usually young players from lower divisions, and the women's team still finds that level very difficult for them.

It's a completely different sport.

reply

I was joking about that. To be fair, they did win Olympic gold.

reply

In fairness, how good are England at ice hockey?

reply

You don't have ice, we have grass.

reply

Regarding Canada's performance, it's true it wasn't good, but they have a stronger team now than usual.
They were unlucky against Belgium, and the referee didn't help.
It was a difficult group anyway.

reply

I agree it was a difficult group, but 2 of those games it wasn't even a competition.

reply

This last game is not really fair to compare, Canada was already eliminated.

Even against Croatia, the game was balanced up to a point.
Canada just let themselves go after some point.

Psychologically it's a fragile and inexperienced team.

With a couple of stronger players, especially in the defense, it would have gone better.
