Are people still convincing themselves that this series is good?
Boring as fuck. Does this mean it is "good writing"?

It has bad writing, I admit.
Gave it multiple chances, but it just gets bland.
I am sorry to admit, maybe D&D were better writers than Hotd writers.
At least they kept people invested.
As far as I know, those "Hotd writers" include GRRM HIMSELF! Are you calling HIM a bad writer?
Well, by analyzing Hotd writing, do I have a choice? I mean, book writing may be ok, but tv writing not so much.
Seems to have the same problems as SW prequel trilogy: no character to root for, no main character, plot all over the place
Prequels from any franchise have TOO MANY PROBLEMS. The sooner studios realise this and stop making them, THE BETTER.

Why do you have to root for a character in order for them to be interesting? This isn't a factory produced Disney product, this is a story for adults. Real life is messier than good guy vs. bad guy.

This isn't even close to being a rule. It's just demanding that all stories have the same structure. Was GOT a bad show? Was Pulp Fiction a bad movie by this logic?

- Not even close to what I was saying. I watched HotD from the start, liked it(especially because there is no generic good vs bad) but as season progressed I found my interest fading, watched until episode 6 and just stopped because it got boring. Don't hate it, just don't find it interesting anymore. Reasons are : timeline skips that are not properly executed and introduction of new characters that is simply bad. Events happen to newly introduced characters that I didnt even have time to care for. Hence - bad writing maybe combined with bad direction.
I guess you still aren't used to GRRM stuff. You start getting invested and then your guy gets his head cut off/almost dies of an infected cut but then gets turned into a vegetable and mercy killed/gets his head squeezed until it bursts.
"It got boring" says more about you than the show.

shareActually HoD has more likeable characters to root for compared to GoT. I remember it took 3 or 4 seasons for likeable characters to emerge!
Raenys and Rhaynera are likeable, so are his sons.
Stick to Rings of Dogshit I guess.
shareI have tried to get into it. Last night in the middle of episode 7 I turned it off. It's just not compelling.
The characters are all bland, blend into each other, and there isn't one among them I am rooting for or against. It needs some humor, someone chewing up scenery, or at least someone I can truly root for... instead it's dragons flying around, drab people squabbling, and uninspired storylines.
Agreed. But the people who hate Rings of Power are still holding it up as a paradigm of fantasy writing, even though it went steadily downhill after episode 2. They have a narrative in their heads and they don't seem to be able to let go of it.

You just need to be able to appreciate good dialogue and pacing and have an attention span of more than 3 seconds.
Some of the cast's performances have been phenomenal.
Also the costumes are fucking awesome.
It is really boring. It is also re-run every night on HBO so it’s hard to ignore.

shareIt really is boring. They are now 8 episodes in. The original series was truly compelling by this point. I think the main issue with this show is that it revolves around such a small group of characters. In the original show's format, the HOTD story would have been just one of about ten stories that were unfolding at the same time.

I agree it is no more boring than GoT Season 1 (or even 2). People have forgotten how boring GoT was at the start before we became invested in the characters. I think season 1 of HoD was solid, it did a great job of compressing the story about how the conflict came to be within 10 episodes.
Of course it is disappointing that it ends just as it is getting really interesting with the political game of all the houses. But that makes me really pumped for season 2!
A lot of things happen that don't go anywhere. I mean the crab feeder guy was interesting, but then Daemon killed him, and...nothing. What was the point of all of that? Daemon steals the dragon egg...and gives it back. Daemon kills his wife....no consequences.
Daemon and Rhaenyra make out in public, word gets out....and nothing happens. It is forgotten about.
Also lack of character consistency. Rhaenyra and Alicent were besties, and Alicent was kind and understanding. Then a decade goes by, and they now utterly hate each other, Alicent is a ruthless bitch. The young Rhaenyra was kind of sparky and fiery, the old version is kind of miserable and drab.
The biggest disappointment of the series has been daemon. He seemed like he was going to be an interested character who was dangerous and fearless, but he has just been kind of impotent the whole season.

Alicent's character arc hasn't been very interesting. I suppose her becoming ruthless is in accordance to the book, I am not sure though.
And yeah, Rhaenyra was plucky and adventurous in the first 5 episodes, now she's just a worn out old maid.
And Daemon has been almost pointless. Matt Smith is a mixed bag for me. I just haven't seen him in anything that has "wowed me" yet. I am starting to like Aemond though. He's a gutsy character. But the way things have been going, I'm sure he will do some horrible things before long. lol.
The thing that's been the most frustrating so far has been all the talk of "war" and nothing ever happens other than in the step stones. For the most part, it's family drama. I'm sure we are a few episodes away from all hell breaking loose but wow, the build up to it has been pretty slow and redundant.
I am starting to think that episode 7 should have been the first episode and everything else should have been done with flashbacks or narration.
Perhaps everything that's happened so far will make more sense in the latter episodes but so far it just seems like a lot of nothing-burgers are getting served up.
