This series is so confusing ...

This series is getting so convoluted and confusing, it was bad enough when they did the time/character shift in Ep. 6, but I was really lost as to who is who and what is going on. Not totally, but now in Ep. 7 it is worse. When the scene shifts I have to re-orient as to who am I looking at and what is going on in that character's timeline, and to be honest, I don't really care that much any more.

Watching a series like his should fun and amusing - not like trying to memorize math formulas or the periodic table. And here we are back again with the incest thing. Like, they figured it was the incest that made Game Of Thrones so popular, so they better not leave out the incest.

reply

Haha, no doubt, they expect the viewer to have rewatched GoT at least 2 or 3 times fully in the last decade. Anyways, Targaryens wed brother and sister long before Cersei and Jaime thought they came up with the idea first. Daenerys herself is a product of a family line of incestuous relationships.

reply

It is the incest thing is overdone, but also that there is no real reason for it, and Daemon is such a despicable creep - why would what's her name fall for him? It makes no real sense, and I don't care to invest the time and energy to find out why it might make sense.

Also, the opening sequence is not as good as GOT, which at least gave us an overview of the GOT world.

reply

You are right. The visuals in the titles sequence seems to be like an an afterthought. I was very impressed how the visuals in Game Of Thrones titles expanded every season, as the geography of the narrative evolved. I hope I am wrong in what I’m about to say, but this show feels cut-rate to me. It makes no sense for it to be, because Game of Thrones (and The Sopranos) made HBO a shitload of money. Why dilute an established brand name?

reply

The reason for the incest is because they believe they need to keep Targaryen blood to be able to control the dragons and maintain their source of power. Without the dragons they are actually quite weak and easy to overthrow.

reply

Um, the overview of the Doom of Valerya is pretty good. The structure Viserys is making in the King's chamber is Old Valerya. The opening with the Targaryen bloodline is played out over Old Valerya where the Targaryen dynasty began.

As for the incest, go to your history in the reign of the Ptolemys. That was Cleopatra's lineage. To keep the bloodline strong and pure she was married to her brother to rule Egypt.

The intro has even been updated a couple times since episode 1 to reflect events in the show.

reply

I know that. Gee, it's like I don't watch the show.

reply

Lol, and my complaint is that is too simplistic :D

Almost everything is settled by the end of each episode and there is no mystery, no machinations, no nothing.

Even the last Strong which was supposed to be the new "spider" is so ... bland and uninteresting.

Damn I miss all the intrigues and craziness of GOT.

reply

I know what you mean. I had to rewatch certain parts to find out what was going on!!!

reply

The story isn't confusing. It's the names. It's not like anyone on this show is named Bob or Sue. If they bring up a name, I'm like, "Who the hell is that!?!" And before I know it, I'm behind, and I'm lost.

reply

> The story isn't confusing. It's the names.

that are confusing ... it's confusing.

Not just the names. They all look the same, and then there is the compounding clumsiness of changing all the actors who look completely different from their younger selves. It's terrible. I cancelled HBO and might watch till later this month, but I didn't finish the last episode ... just though this is enough BS, I don't care about it. I like the little daughter who would be queen, but now they have this incest thing going on again ... it's just not for me.

reply

You cancelled HBO because you’re not getting HoD? It’s not confusing if you’re interested, so I guess it’s simply a series that you don’t like.

It’s ok, I don’t like everything either.

reply

No it is series that is poorly conceived and executed. If you like, fine. I subscribed to HBO to watch it, I don't like it, so I cancelled it. Is that OK with you?

reply

thank you.

you confirm i made the right decision to dump this series after ep 5

cheers.

reply

How did you get through GoT if you think this is confusing?

reply

You'd know if you read what I write. In GOT they did not change the actors, and the characters did not all look very similar, and have very similar names too.

reply

I totally agree. Did the character casting switch again? It started off as engrossing, but with every time jump, people and personalities are changing and it’s starting to lose me. The director/actor recaps at the end, usually a perk for other series, is really a necessity in this series because (otherwise), you can’t figure out what’s going on!

reply

Life is confusing!!!

reply

It can be, but our faces do not drastically change from one month to the next, and all our names do not sound the same.
