Maybe Disney was afraid of having its main character an amoral super criminal. I agree. The menacing performance of Frank Gorshin in particular was borderline frightening. I doubt it would have been seen in the post-Disney, pre-Eisner movies. The first Casino Royale movie was a satire on the James Bond films. As such, a lot of James Bond fans do not look upon it as a "true" James Bond movie. Nothing new about that. I often felt the ones who disliked him the most were the old guard Trekkies (the ones who had a cardiac arrest when Shatner did his "get a life" skit). Dislike it? I LOVE IT!!! The greatest casualty of political correctness - humor. Maybe they forgot their umbrellas!!! The way I understood it the producers wanted the audience to "get the feel" of what it was like to be Blackthorne, to be trapped in a strange land with an equally strange language and customs. I can understand the reasoning but feel it would have been better if there had been subtitles (people like to know what is going on). I agree with you about putting kids on the ship. I've always suspected some know-nothing Hollywood executive thought up a "sure fire" way to get kids to watch the show, and putting them on the Enterprise was it. I also agreed with you about Captain Jellico - he trimmed away the fat and built up the muscle. View all replies >
