Creepy garbage movie that completely undermines the message of the original.

So. The world made a new Matrix movie. A movie that once defined my life. I think a lot of folks could say the same. It's a movie I just kind of got around to. Ok, there it is. I guess i'll watch it. I saw the trailers and it didn't rope me in. Much like Pirates, I kind of dug the second one, but the third one was trash. It burned me out. You all saw the movie. You know what it was. My god. IDK. This movie showed a tiny scene of Morpheus leaping roof top to roof top, and landing on the skyscraper roof on the other side, and busting up the roofing material when he landed. It's from the first movie, it was just there for a spit second. THAT was better than anything in this entire film. It stood out so boldly from all the movie around it that i'm taking the time to write about it now.

The movie beat down a message that I don't agree with, and I don't see many folks talking about online. Choice. The first movie was all about choice. Do you choose to believe or don't you? THIS movie hammered down the precept that there is no choice, that choice itself is the illusion, which I don't believe in, and I think it goes contrary to all the themes presented in the original film. Neo chooses to believe and go down the rabbit hole. Cypher chooses to eat fucking Steak and live a better life than he could ever know in the real world. Choices were made. This movie would have you believe that freedom of will isn't possible. It's creepy.

reply

What I didn't like about the film was its reliance on endless flashbacks of the original trilogy (kind of wrecking rewatchability doing that), not asking Fishburne to return and conflicting filming with Weaving was really sad, turning Niobe into an annoyance, and a not as good soundtrack and atmosphere as the first three.

Also, San Francisco and Tokyo have nothing on the well designed Mega City of the originals.

I'd still give it a 6 out of 10 though, some parts were decent, but the original trilogy is indeed much better.

reply

This is a great review. Very similar to my feelings about the movie

reply

Spot on TandyMan.

Even at the end of the trilogy

Smith: Why Mister Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?!

Neo: Because I choose to.

I can't believe this movie, it's like it was written by people that had just watched the trilogy once and the themes just went completely over their heads.

reply

Neo: Because I choose to.

Choice is what humans, living beings of free will, have over the machine that know no such luxury. This movie gives machines free will. Just go free and work for the humans. Sure. No code in the way of that.

It's almost like they were using the Matrix to fix shitty Terminator sequels.

reply

And just like Terminator sequels (after the second) The Matrix Resurrections is just another unnecessary sci-fi action movie sequel.

reply

its kinda the same body, but a different person. age and genderswap do that to you

reply

It's because they want to pretend that there are no 'choices' in life.

Dressing up and pretending you're a woman for example - although it 100% is a choice they want to pretend that it isn't.

reply

i remember seeing the original.. man you walked outta the movies with your mind fu@king BLOWN (people forget the impact it had on popular culture)

the sequels just cheapened the first film..
i will see this eventually.. but not sure when

reply

first thing i did was buying spoons. but there were none :(

reply

it's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
and isn't it ironic?

reply

The reason people get their mind blown on first movies vs sequels is because they never seen the movie before, nor had any thoughts on the story before.

One huge problem with the matrix sequels is people had their own idea how the sequels should go, and when they didn't, they were disappointed. I've talked to and read many peoples thoughts on sequels to come, then sequel comes and it wasn't what they expected, so now the disappointed responses.

I try to never expect on sequels. It really helps, but doesn't always work. Alot of sequels are bad.

I didn't try to expect from avengers infinity wars & endgame, but because I've read those comics, i sorta naturally expected some stuff from them. I didn't necessarily like their direction with the movies. I still enjoyed them, but i did have some disappointed thoughts/moments.

reply

yes but the first movie was actually great.
unlike the garbage cash-grabby sequels..

look at Alien and Aliens, they're both equally loved by fans

reply

I don't find the sequels as garbage. And the cash grabbing reference is for any movie. 1st or sequel. I hate that reference cuz its just unneeded hate.

If we go by a majority, then you should've use the fast & furious franchise. Now the first couple sequels weren't loved by fans, but crikey, these last few seem to be loved by fans, but are total garbage.

reply

"Cash grab"

reply

Additional. I changed my mind a little bit about this movie after watching the Red Letter Media Video. I think they're right. I think they made this movie shitty on purpose. And the for the reasons they said. They are trolling the whole world, and most especially, their popularity in it. They wanted to ruin something beautiful. Like in Fight Club. Just like in Fight Club. I'm not kidding.

reply

special note: I think all the Neo using force push and not using kung fu was covid related. this movie was well documented as a victim of the current times, and already altering motorcycle chases. i don't think it stopped there. i think they phoned in the whole thing after that. and i further think they sold themselves completely on this being the future of mankind, and not some serious bullshit.

reply

keanu is almost 60

reply

Doesn't stop him from performing incredible phyical feats in the John Wick series.

reply

which one?

reply

Yeah apparently Lana didn’t even want to finish the movie when production shut down due to the pandemic but the cast convinced her to finish the movie.

If it got people to sign up to HBO Max for Matrix member berries then it didn’t matter if it sucked.

reply

I think the movie isn't THAT bad to validate such theory.

reply

FUCK the original Matrix. And FUCK Fight Club, too! I never saw such rubbish in two movies!

reply

don't listen to videos.
we now live in a world where people can make up and match up shit about anything and everything, then put it in a video for all the world to see. use your FREE WILL and your own mind to think and feel about it how YOU do, not how other's videos tell you to.
500 hours... 500 HOURS - that's 20 DAYS!!!!! - of video are uploaded to youtube every minute. EVERY MINUTE!!!! Everyone wants to be heard AND get money for that.

I could pop out a 60 minute video in excruciating about how the matrix represents a misdirection to turn your life over to Satan, or how it is really a 2 hour long commercial paid for by a Leather company, or that is is about Jesus, or that it is about reincarnation, or milk duds, or whatever... doesn't matter if it is true or not.

snatch back your brain, zombie, snatch it back and hold it

reply

"don't listen to videos"

Holy generalization, Batman!

OP can decide for themselves which videos are worthy of their consideration, and which ones aren't. It's likely that the Red Letter Media video wasn't the only one OP watched on the subject, yet they still highlighted that one as inspiration for a new POV on this movie.

"I could pop out a 60 minute video in excruciating about how the matrix represents a misdirection to turn your life over to Satan, or how it is really a 2 hour long commercial paid for by a Leather company, or that is is about Jesus, or that it is about reincarnation, or milk duds, or whatever... doesn't matter if it is true or not"

Yes, you could, yes. But no one will ever mention that video in any context as something that changed their mind on the movie. The Red Letter Media guys have a track record of having interesting, thought provoking takes on the movies they review, so there is value in their work. The video you "could pop out" - judging by the description - doesn't have value. And people tend to favor videos that have value over ones that don't.

"use your FREE WILL and your own mind to think and feel about it how YOU do, not how other's videos tell you to."

Jesus Christ, the guy mentioned that he found one video interesting, that doesn't mean they have no free will...

"500 hours... 500 HOURS - that's 20 DAYS!!!!! - of video are uploaded to youtube every minute. EVERY MINUTE!!!! Everyone wants to be heard AND get money for that."

And yet.... And YET... for some inexplicable reason not everyone gets heard and not everyone gets money. Wait, I have a possible explanation: maybe you need to actually have something substantial to say and add some value to the conversation around whatever the subject of your video for it to be a success? Maybe people can decide for themselves what is worth their time to watch and what isn't?

reply

Hahaha what a time waste of a post.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Hoping you reached them because they might have almost thought for themselves and we don't want more of that.

reply

I never consider formulating my thoughts a waste of time. Cheers!

reply

They’ve trolled before in the video game The Matrix: Path of Neo

Watch the ending of that game on YouTube if you’ve never played it, the Wachowskis turn up and break the fourth wall and talk to the player. It’s quite funny.

Obviously releasing a $190 million piece of garbage and charging people money for it is next level trolling, but it’s flopped so they’ve really only trolled Warner Bros.

reply

WHAT message?

All I saw in the original movie was a movie full of special effects gimmicks and cod philosophy, and when it wasn't doing that, it was bombarding you with ridiculous martial arts, annoying characters and a constant green tint to the screen. I hated the damn thing, especially since it coined one IMDb user to compare Hugo Weaving's Agent Smith to his Elrond in Lord of the Rings, calling himself Agent Elrond, when we all know his Elrond role was far, far more significant to Weaving's career than this tepid shit!

Fuck the Matrix, and I'm glad the Matrix movies got fucked over by, as they're not worth anyone's time. And no, I didn't see this GARBAGE, as once was enough.

reply

FUCK the original Matrix.

If you don't like the original Matrix movie to begin with, wtf r u doing here in the first place?!
it's obvious you're not here to discuss, only to bitch about: F this!, F that! ..

Fuck the Matrix, and I'm glad the Matrix movies got fucked over by, as they're not worth anyone's time.

This is your take on Matrix movies? A lot of people would disagree with you. Only someone who didn't get the movie would have such superficial take on Matrix and say such BS about the original movie and The Matrix Trilogy in general + AniMatrix and not recognize what an impact original Matrix movie (and 2 sequels that followed + Animatrix) have in film industry and pop culture.

If you don't like certain movies, it's ok, but it seams to me you hate movies if you don't like them; screaming: F... this movie! F... that movie!
Movies are made to entertain people, not to hate it when you don't like a movie.

Its true ''The Matrix Resurrections'' is big disappointment imo and as far as i'm concerned this movie shouldn't be part of the Matrix canon at all but i don't hate the movie.

reply

I'm not a fan, and the first two sequels were dumb as well.

"what an impact original Matrix movie have in film industry"
That's part of the problem, the Matrix stuff was EVERYWHERE after that movie came out, I became sick of it being copied so often, it didn't even look good, it was just a GIMMICK, and I don't like gimmicks.

reply

[deleted]

if you dont see all the deep stuff thats going on in m1, its you, not the film

reply

Deep? The Matrix?? DEEP?? I'd get more depth out of the Matrix from Doctor Who than this!! :D

reply

ok simpleton

reply

All I saw from the "deep" part of the movie from the good guys was the old black woman and the children bending spoons like Uri Geller except with their minds and the rubbish COD PHILOSOPHY parroted then, with riddles galore.

However, a great point was made by Agent Smith comparing humanity to a virus, which to be honest, I agree with.

So basically, I took more enjoyment out of the bad guys' wisdom than the good guys'.

reply

what is a matrix then? did u get it?

the only bad thing about the movie is the changed script which switched humans as neural network to batteries.

reply

"the only bad thing about the movie is the changed script which switched humans as neural network to batteries."
That kills it for me. Like the first Superman movie is killed by reversing the Earth's spin just by flying around it over and over really fast to some-..how, reverse..... time??? (WTF?)

reply

the audience had no idea of neural networks in 99.

superman on the other hand is a fantasy movie. thats like saying: did u see the movie where the mage was casting fireballs? (WTF?)

reply

"the audience had no idea of neural networks in 99."

Yes they did, they'd seen Terminator 2 which mentioned neural net processors, which mimicked the functions of the human brain used by the Skynet cyborgs, and that was back in frickin' 1991! I'm sure the audience could put two and two together to see the similarities between them and the Matrix machines.

reply

bs
t2 was about robotics

reply

Either you're really stupid, or you've never seen the in-depth explanation of the Terminator abilities in the Extended Cut which had Miles Dyson explain exactly how his neural net processor was going to revolutionise the future, or how John and Sarah were able to reprogram the Terminator's learning abilities by flipping a little switch on the neural net processor chip to enable it to learn about humanity.

reply

extended cut wasnt in the cinema in 92. bet ure a post 2000 kiddo

reply

Terminator 2 was 1991, not 1992. And I know the Extended Edition came out long before Matrix.

I'm starting to think you "play" for a "special needs" football team. Which is it, Spaz Squad or Retards United?

reply

def 200x kid. no behaviour, no arguments, just a spoiled aggressive baby.
i was in t2 in 92 and i know when neural nets became a thing in pop media

reply

I was born in 1972, actually.

"i was in t2 in 92 and i know when neural nets became a thing in pop media"

1. The only places in the world when T2 came out in 1992 was Czechoslovakia and Poland.

2. What do you mean, you were IN T2?

3. In regards to question 2, if you really think you are the artificial intelligence from 2001: A Space Odyssey, the HAL 9000, then you are seriously TROLLING.

reply

Weird opinion

reply

I can't believe you missed the point that the creator was shitting on the whole 4th installment endeavor. The film went out of its way to almost explicitly say as much. After that line about Warner Bros. doing it with or w/o them I knew what was going on. The whole film was a meta middle finger to the corporate machine behind it. Pretty punk rock if you ask me!

reply

You're not wrong. But that such a thing was produced and released still... How is it possible?

reply

I guess the suits were just blinded by the prospect of making millions of dollars.

reply

its true and funny about the middle finger, but the execution was horrible

reply

Most executions are horrible... to watch.
