Early reactions aren't good

2.6 on Letterboxd already and that's before the embargo even lifts.

reply

No, they're not. People are saying it gets really weird and they weren't sure if what they were watching is really real. They don't like weirdness in their Halloween movies. Just look at Curse of Michael Myers and Rob Zombie's Halloween II. They want just a simple, straightforward slasher film.

reply

Oh trust me, there were times during Ends that I truly felt like I was streaming the wrong movie. It felt that off in spots.

I don’t necessarily want a simple slasher film but if you are going to add something - make it fit the universe you are in!

My issue is that I wish the Blumhouse movies could've stemmed from a previous existing timeline, like either the Thorn timeline or the H20/Resurrection timeline. Destroying all development of Michael is just terrible. Michael spends 40 years in a jail cell from Halloween 1978 to Halloween 2018. Like, what? Come on dude.

Michael spends a total of 59 years in seclusion in this timeline! Awful. 15 years of a mental hospital in the original film + 40 years of being a prisoner between 1978 and 2018 + 4 years in a sewer from Halloween Kills to Halloween Ends. Just underwhelming.

reply

I actually like Curse of Michael Myers (Producer's Cut) and Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. They are about Michael Myers, and Michael is in the majority of those two movies. Here in Halloween Ends, Michael is hardly in the film.

Michael only did one kill in Halloween Ends. There was no urgency for Michael...it was like he was retired in that sewer. To be fair though, I haven't liked any of these Blumhouse Halloween movies, so perhaps I am biased in that way.

I think there was a political meaning to Halloween Ends and it is interesting to think upon it, but the Blumhouse trilogy was just underwhelming for me. My favorite will always be the Thorn/Jamie trilogy. I even like H20, Resurrection and Zombie's Halloween 2, but the Blumhouse movies I can't stand.

Saw a review on another site. Here's the more interesting snippets;

it takes a big swing and if it doesn't work for you on a story level, if you simply cannot accept it, well, you're not in for a good time.

if you're extremely precious about michael's characterization/how he is portrayed, you might not like it. if you want him to be the meat and potatoes of the movie, well, you're probably going to hate it.

if you're more interested in watching a story of how certain events, trauma, and communities can lead one down a descent of darkness, and how that affects one, you may enjoy it!

Sounds like a disaster to me.

reply

So. I'm not gonna like it. Good to know.

reply

It sounds awesome to me! It looks It follows the junguian path from Halloween Kills about the Collective Shadow, if David gordon Green has had freedom it may be the best movie of the saga!

It's a pity people is too stupid and/or conservative to apreciate It 🤷🏻‍♂️

reply

You call people stupid based on their reaction to a freakin' slasher movie? Yeah, this might be the biggest problem mankind has to face these days...

reply

If you want to see over and over the same yes, It means you are stupid or very conservative. It's the same that happens with Star Wars fans, for example, a sad thing that explains why Hollywood makes so much garbage today.

reply

We’re you expecting otherwise???

reply

Not really considering word of mouth from test screenings months ago was bad

reply

When I saw a 5.5 on IMDb before watching I knew I was in for a tough ride. I know IMDb isn’t perfect in its scoring(especially these days) but if a movie is 5.5 this quickly - that is not good.

Then I watched it and it confirmed my feelings. Ends was really strange and bad

reply

Of course. Halloween always falls apart in the late sequels.

See you all during the soft reboot.

reply

Why would there be an embargo, it's already playing in Indonesia, Philippines, Australia? Several reviews if you google "Halloween ends review".

reply

The one in the United States is supposed to end at 3 P.M. today from what I've heard.

reply

RT is 63% from 8 critics. Even more reviews, just google. Critics are ignoring the stupid Thu noon embargo!

reply

Still early, but I'll be surprised if this ends up with better reception than Kills

reply

Down to 47% after 66 reviews.

reply

why would it be good?
the first 2 in this trilogy are crap already

reply

I liked 2018. Kills on the other hand wasn't very good.

reply

I LIKED BOTH...2018 MORE THAN KILLS...BUT I LIKED BOTH...I DID NOT LOVE EITHER OF THEM THOUGH...HONESTLY I EXPECTED MORE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES.

reply

I see it like this

Halloween 2018 was solid but nothing special

Halloween Kills was not very good

Halloween Ends is awful

reply

Exactly.

reply

Does anyone get killed in this movie?

reply

No, they get ENDED

reply

The worst thing this franchise could have done to Michael Meyers….is overexposure. The original ‘78 film was a masterpiece, and they should have left it alone. Now, Michael Meyers has a backstory, an outfit, a theme song, an action figure…..even a lunchbox.

The thing that ruined Freddy and Jason is the same thing that really killed Michael. Overkill.

reply

The more we know about Michael Myers, the better. Its called curiosity. By the way, you have his action figure and still bring your lunch to work in a Michael Myers lunch box? Of course he has to have an outfit. Do you want to see him naked?
