Episode 9 (What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?) Is Why I HIGHLY Dislike Avengers: Endgame

Wow. I am so frustrated and disgusted after watching the 9th episode. I wanted something similar to What If...? (Season 1) Episode 9 for Avengers: Endgame. Not having 20+ movies leading up to Avengers/All Heroes Vs Thanos & An Army Of No-Name CGI Minions. I wanted Endgame to be Avengers/All Heroes Vs A Ridiculously Strong Thanos and all the heroes work together to bring down Thanos. They even used the whole thing of stripping Thanos of Infinity Stones and Thanos trying to get them back while the heroes play a game of Keep Away. I would've also liked to see Thanos regain a stone, but is stripped of another one the second he gets one back. And then while Thanos is trying to get a stone back, the heroes are taking turns hitting him and trying to remove more stones until either he is stripped of all of them and a hero or several heroes kills him (merge/fuse powers together), or they defeat him and then lock him up somewhere.

What If...? S01E09 proves this could've worked in Endgame. I was fully interested in the fight between the heroes and an overpowered Ultron. And it was intense to watch also because Ultron came close to regaining the stone that was taken from him. Also, all the heroes pretty much got to have a moment and I got to see them work together.

So after watching What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?, F'K AVENGERS: ENDGAME. I absolutely hate that movie now and it'll be among my least favorite MCU movies.

Hopefully someone will agree with me and even understand my frustration with Endgame after watching What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?

You mean something like the Battle on Titan in Infinity War? That is hands down one of the best moments ever put on screen in my opinion. The Guardians of the Galaxy with Spidey, Stark & Strange trying to get the infinity gauntlet off of Thanos was amazing.

Nothing in Endgame topped that in my opinion. In terms of action & memorable team ups, I honestly found Endgame very lacking.

Cap, Thor & Iron Man vs Thanos was the only standout fight in the film for me. And mostly cause of Cap's Mjolnir moment

I feel like they ruined the HULK in END GAME

I wish Thor was the one who snapped everyone back while Hulk got a rematch with Thanos.

I very much disagree, this episode was action packed but so daft that just doesn’t follow any logic.

Ultron has all the Infinity Stones, he should be able to erase everyone instantly, no fight required.

The whole point established with the stones is that whoever wields them is nigh-invincible and cannot lose. We saw this in Infinity War.

They even had Ultron last episode kill Thanos in seconds but he can’t do anything against any of this team? They all wouldn’t have lasted two seconds without Strange’s protective spell. Ultron barely takes advantage of any of the different stones in the fight either, this whole episode was like a mediocre rehash of the fight on Titan from Infinity War except with very little of that fight’s excitement or creativity.

Endgame was a fantastic sendoff for Cap, Iron Man and Black Widow. The film dealt with themes of grief, loss and failure and was more about the emotion than the action. Yet still what little action there was was impressive.

It’s not like anything in Endgame was easy for the heroes either. Getting the stones required careful planning and even going up against Thanos without the stones just proved how much of a badass warrior he already was.

If The Avengers fought and beat Thanos in Endgame wielding a full set of Infinity Stones everyone would have been annoyed that they nerfed the stone’s powers. Even Ultron in this episode was like ‘wait, how have I not won yet?’ and the answer is basically because of bad writing. Give me any scene in Endgame over this episode any day.

I find that "what little action there was" description kinda strange in light of the entire final forty minutes of "Endgame."

That said, I agree entirely nonetheless; "Endgame" was about emotions more than action, which was what the Russos kept telling us in advance of its release.

I must also agree with M1sterDoct0r in that the "Infinity War" battle on Titan fulfilled this "What If ...?" episode's promise entirely, but without reducing this episode to a mere rehash.

Yeah my bad I meant to put what little action there is throughout the film. Infinity War has action throughout whereas Endgame puts the majority of it as the last 40 minutes.

I really think it’s a fantastic film, one of the best paced 3 hour movies I’ve ever seen.

However, as Ultron himself says, the Infinity Stones from universe to universe differ. Perhaps Ultron's stones don't allow him to simply erase anyone. And while I didn't like the idea of Ultron being able to kill Thanos so easily, it can be argued that was due to surprise. (Actually I don't buy that argument, but it seems to be a popular analysis.)

I agree completely.
You have to really reach to think this episode, while still good, even compares to Endgame.

I dunno, I kinda feel that’s what we got throughout Infinity War and Endgame still gave us Thanos vs “The Big Three” then he had a few solo fights during the big battle.

This was before the introduction to 'multiverse' itself which was planned for in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. Then you ask, but why? Doctor Strange? Hello? Well, THEY NEED TO MAKE MONEY! Duh. Still a nice What If albeit disappointing in the sense that powered up humans could outthink an supercomputer AI. Another jarring thing I have about having stones is they never protect them. Why have them shown out in the open? Should be molded into the armor to make it obscure. Always the battle for stones when someone holds them out like bling.

I feel you, TC. Personally, one of my favorite What if comics can't even be adapted because of the rights issues with Sony. That would be what if Spider-Man never became a crime fighter. It doesn't help that even if that wasn't the case because of how many Spider-Man movies there'd been, Marvel and Sony completely got rid of Uncle Ben so that story can't even really be told. Another favorite what if comic of mine, What if the Punisher had killed Daredevil can't even be done because Punisher and Daredevil have yet to get an MCU movie. So I can't get what I want either.
