Was this overrated?
Or still the best CBM?
sharevery overrated, and nowhere near the best of anything.
shareIt was. The scene with flying to China was idiotic. Ledger's Joker was even worse than Nicholson's.
shareTorn. I think it's well made and well liked, and it deserves that praise. But sometimes I think it's a very good film, while other times I find it a bad film with some great parts. Overall, it's not my personal favourite CBM and I find it sometimes unwatchable.
shareI’m curious. What about it do you find unwatchable? That’s not a challenge. I value your thoughts, and would like to know.
shareI don't find anything in the opening scene interesting - and it's hard for me to view beyond that. The Scarecrow was probably my favourite character from Batman Begins, but his appearance at the start of this film is very much shoulder-shrug-inducing unnecessary. The whole opening scene kind of reads like a 90s Batman movie - silly and over the top, but without the fun and campiness of the actual 90s Batman films. The dogs, the heavy accents of the villains, all the dialogue, is really cringe-worthy.
Plus some scenes that I do recall off the bat really bug me. I feel like there's too much posturing - too much of the film saying 'look how cool Batman is' or 'look how craaaayzy the Joker is.' But if I think back to, say, the bank robbery scene, it feels like its been taken straight out of something like Point Break and just modernized. But not equal to the original - the thieves come off as more crazy in that scene than the Joker's performance in TDK. So when people tell me these are their favourite scenes from the film, I tend to disagree.
It was flawed but I ultimately enjoyed the film (apart from the silly batman needs to take the blame ending)and yes massively overrated. One of the most overrated films ever.
shareIt's in the top five for certainty, there are a lot of hyperbolic replies in this thread. How was the ending bad? The idea of Batman taking the fall for Harvey's demise is ingenious, a true hero puts their city before themselves. He did everything he set out to do. Bruce made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Gotham and its people.
The best thing about it is you don't need to be a superhero mega fan to enjoy it, all the best films toy with themes of trust and portrayal.
Absurdly overrated. I saw it twice and fail to see what's so great about it, although The Joker is great and probably the best version of the character.
