Peter Capaldi

could of been a better Doctor but was ruined, with them preparing for a female doctor.

reply

Capaldi was wonderful. I think he was one of the most talented actors to have ever played the Doctor.

reply

I liked him in Skins

reply

I liked him when he played a doctor who worked for W.H.O. in World War Z

reply

Maybe but I didn't like his portrayal of an old man sad because his children don't visit.

reply

I liked Capaldi.

reply

I adored Capaldi!

I just felt a bit sorry for him, he's an old Whovian but got the job during a period of bad writing. So he had to spend his whole tenure trying to make bad material better, which can't be fun.

reply

I'd say Matt Smith had this problem too.

reply

Smith got more good scripts than Capaldi did, and had the advantage of spending most of his run with "companions" who were genuinely likeable and interesting. Rory and Amy were wonderful individually, and got me involved in their relationship even though I'm not normally inclined to care deeply about straight people's feelings towards each other. Capaldi was stuck with Clara for most of his run, and she just wasn't a good fit with his Doctor, I mean she's basically cute and likeable but she spent most of their time together scolding him and trying to rein in his awesomeness and getting on my nerves.

I liked Bill and her student/mentor relationship with the Doctor much more, but the BBC didn't really let the relationship blossom. Pity, that.

reply

Was never a big fan of Amy. But think that was as much the writing as anything else.

Oh she's engaged, but she's fancies The Doctor. But, oh look, she really loves Rory. She's married to Rory, but oh look she fancies The Doctor still. But look she's choosing Rory. No she's not, oh wait. Yes she is. Oh no, they got divorced for an episode. But no fear, now she loves him again. This got tedious.

I preferred Clara as a companion. Even more so when she was with Capaldi. I liked her trying to reign in his grumpiness, and trying to excuse his eccentricity to those around him.

Smith was Doctor when Moffatt got a boner for seasons long plot arcs. Personal taste probably, but I preferred Capaldi's era because Moffatt toned that down more.

I liked both Capaldi and Smith though.

reply

Rory and Amy seemed very real, with the kind of flaws that real people have and who made the kind of mistakes that real people do... even when one of them was made of plastic.

Well different strokes for different folks, I know there are a lot of people who like Clara a lot more than I do.

reply

I was never big on Clara too much of a know it all clever clog type character but I did like the way 12 and hers relationship developed and they became like best friends. Her ending is terrible though.

reply

I don't think they did it on purpose.

They are so busy with virtue signaling that they can't write good stories. Indeed, last season used a female doctor and it has been the worst season and the most incompetent Doctor to date. Even worst than Capaldi's.

When you change meritocracy for quotas and diversity, decline happens. This is just part of the general BBC decline, which is part of UK decline, which is part of western decline. It's just the general trend of our time.

reply

Tennant. That is all.

reply

Tennat had great scripts, and that makes a difference. Not saying that Capaldi could have been that good (Tennant is one of the best actors right now), but he would have closed the gap.

reply

"Should of"? Seriously?

reply

well he could have been better if they weren't getting ready for a female Doctor they should of Paid Matt Smith what ever He Wanted for One More Season But I never felt they had Plans to keep Peter as long.
I was Glad they returned to an Older Doctor after Matt Smith though
Imagine Rosa Parks episode with Richard Ayoade

reply

What I was trying to tell you is it's "should have", not "should of".

reply

oh yeah I am always doing that.

I have started to like Peter Capaldi ever since I got his season of Doctor Who on DVD for my birthday and since I have begun being a Doctor Who fan last year whenever Jodie Whittaker made her debut I have been trying to collect all the Doctor Who DVDs I can find. And out of all of the Doctor Who stars Peter really has a lot to be desired and when he was cast in Doctor Who he really brought a tough side to the Doctor and considering that Peter Capaldi has been a successful actor in the UK for a long time Peter really brought a unique touch to the show and I think that's what made BBC choose to make Doctor Who a huge hit in TV. But when Peter left Doctor Who it really hurt BBC a lot and they knew that without him Doctor Who would've been cancelled but ever since Jodie Whittaker made her debut on Doctor Who the ratings for her season went through the roof at BBC. But Peter Capaldi will always be considered one of the best Doctor Who stars ever in the history of the show. Also what surprised me is that Peter's son Lewis Capaldi is a singer who sings really good and Peter even appeared in one of his son's music videos and Peter and Lewis do an awesome job doing father/son things together. Who knows maybe Lewis Capaldi will follow in Peter Capaldi's footsteps and be cast as the next Doctor in a Doctor Who season?

reply

Sorry but Lewis capaldi is Peter's second cousin or something like that and only met the last year or so for the first time. Peter is not his dad.

I to love Capaldi but if anything the BBC messed him around. Firstly there's always people who aren't going to be keen on a new doctor but right from the start people where asking who would replace him. I don't want to stereotype but at times it felt like the younger audience used to a young doctor e.g. Tennant and Smith weren't keen on a much older doctor.

For me it's what the show needed and it made sense. As others have talked about 9 was suffering PTSD and dealing with the affects of the time war kind of like a wounded solider trying to be strong. 10 I suppose was the more emotional one with 11 kind of trying to forget. 12 is like the doctor realising he didn't destroy gallifrey and so a weight is lifted and the mask comes off showing how old he is. I love the fact he's a lot more direct. After 2 kind of over the top at times doctors we needed a more darker grumpy one but also I like his arc how he became a bit warmer. It's such a shame Bill only had one series because the teacher and student bond they had worked great and showed how far this doctor had came.

One issue is that the show was often moved around a lot schedule wise. Capaldi himself felt that it wasn't given the attention and focus it deserved saying he couldn't tell people what time it was on as he didn't know as it kept changing
