The absolute worst show ever

The 1st 2 seasons were pretty good - but by season 3 I realized that they weren't giving us answers. A mystery show with no answers is a con job. Lost became the biggest con in the history of American TV.
The writers NEVER had any answers - "just throw more mysteries at them and maybe they'll forget their questions" - that's what they did.
I felt cheated and lied to, - I wasted so much time on this rip off show.
Remember the numbers? they were so important - and in the end they meant nothing.

disagree, one of the last great "network" shows

99% of network shows today are better than all of the godawful HBO borefest shyte for tasteless loser sheep.

Get a clue

So it’s worse than shows that didn’t have a single good season?

reply

Other shows didn't lie to you though. OP is right, lost was a con job. It wouldn't be so bad if they had just said 'wait and see' they went on record as saying 'this is all going somewhere'. That's what pissed off so many people - the flat out lies they told for 6 years.

Congrats, you are a victim. Organize a march, start a petition, your ambition is fulfilled.

The final goal, whatever it may be, is nothing; the movement is everything.

Most TV is like this... Soap opera that is only designed to make you watch until the next ad (selling detergent, hence the term soap opera), or in case of streaming keep you watching as habit to renew subscriptions... They do not 'mean' anything.

Lost simply took it to the logical extreme... They treated the audience with contempt to see how long they could get away with it... years!

This is why I prefer movies, novels and short stories. They are their own thing. Even most mini-series are better than these regular TV shows that simply string the audience along... 'Olive Kitteridge' and 'The Night Of' being two good examples. In fact, the BBC original miniseries of 'House Of Cards' didn't suffer the meandering bloat that ended up infecting the American version of that show from season 3 onwards...

This is also why I tend to avoid the serialised movies such as the comicbook movies and the harry potter type movies... I prefer each movie to be able to stand on it's own.

I think the series format encourages taking the audience for granted...

You need to watch the show again. Most of the answers are there. You just need to pay attention. Also, if you're watching it just for the answers to the mysteries then the show isn't for you. Its a character driven show. It was never about the mysteries.

reply

Oh please - it was a constant mystery show. Just tell me what the numbers were about - remember they had to enter the numbers? And why couldn't anyone find the island? What were the "others" so secretive about? The show was a con job on America.

reply

- The numbers were explained in the last season. Each number corresponded with a candidate to become protector of the island.

4 - Locke
8 - Hurley
15 - Sawyer
16 - Sayid
23 - Jack
42 - Sun

-People couldn't find the island because it was constantly moving. The Dharma Initiative eventually found it using that lamppost station which was revealed in season 5.

-What do you mean so secretive about? They followed anything Jacob told them to do. It was all to protect the island.

And the show was always about the characters more than the mystery. The mysteries just helped drive the show to give it a story.

Naw...

The videos by College Humour really nailed the lack of answers and the ridiculousness of the few that were provided...

At least 75% of those can be answered quite easily. And the other 25% were just random questions that are insignificant.

But really if you were watching it just for the mysteries you didn't get the point of what the show was about. I don't get why people get so invested in that. The story of what happened to the characters was way more interesting.

reply

Nope. People who claim it was 'about the characters' were just too lazy to think deeply about the series. These are the same people who think a weepy Hallmark card is deep.

The network TV landscape is awash in re-makes, re-boots, updated seasons years. Yet whenever ABC and/or Lindeloff float periodic trial balloons to raise interest in LOST sequels, prequels, spin-offs, the response is always *crickets*.

The rest of us -- most of us -- no longer care. But, if it makes you feel good, stick with it. No harm in it.

Moving on...

reply

Every single show on tv is about the characters. This isn't really a new concept. Its always been like that. Without characters you have no show. Besides, as Jacobs mother states, "answers will just lead to more questions." And thats what they have done with Lost. So whats the point of giving answers (even though they're already IN THE SHOW) when you won't be satisfied anyway.

And not sure what you're getting at with the spin off stuff. The story ended. Theres nothing to spin off hence why nothing has developed. Lindeloff isn't even interested in doing that. The show should be left alone.

reply

I agree..The show really was the characters and all the characters had a great deal of chemistry with one another and that's one thing that's really hard to find on tv or in film.
There's no reason to ever expect it to be rebooted..It should be left alone.

I laugh when I hear people say "I lost 6 years watching this show"
There were a hundred plus episodes, that only amounts to a few days, not 6 years.
And if you liked the show, but didn't like the last episode, you've only wasted a couple hours.

reply

What makes me so mad is that they made it up as they went along and didn't have every detail hashed out before they aired the pilot episode. And how come they never answered the mystery on why that bird made a noise that sounded like "Hurley"? How can someone enjoy the show if that isn't explained?

The truth is, this was a pretty good show and I think they probably had ideas of where they were going, but I think they changed it from time to time because of the explosion of internet info exchange and people guessing what was going to happen. I personally think that they were going to have the people be dead (or in purgatory) the whole time and everything happened in Jack's head the moments that he was dying. They were always going to start the show zooming in on Jack's eye and end it zooming in on his eye, so that was probably the intent, but too many people put out that theory over the years on internet message boards that they switched things up. That's my theory anywho.

reply

Totally agree op. Plus the producers were so damn pretentious during the whole ordeal. The smart fans knew their game from the beginning. They wrote themselves in a corner and never really had a direction. The NuBSG was a similar mess. Lol

Haha....jokes on you my house don't have a basement.....dumbass....and I am right the show sucked the last few seasons. They made it up as they went along. A CORK???.... hahahahahaha

reply

Written into a corner is right. This show was just a big wank-fest until they realized they had ran out of rope by season 6 and had to come up with something to "conclude" it. So in season 6 we got the yin-yang brother forces...and a pressure-cooker island with a cork in it. OMFG, ROFL!

But you know, I was suckered along for all these seasons of LOST expecting there was going to be some kind of genius finale season that would tie everything together because, until then, the journey had been entertaining up to that point. Do you wanna know how I make peace with myself for being strung along like that? I consider the show to have concluded at the finish of season 5 when the bomb went off. My ending is that--Boom!--everyone died. The End. I think that's a better and more fitting ending than the crap we got in season 6.
