Not really. There was never really any serious sentiment suggesting that George Lucas was at all a racist. Just some mild criticism reported on that a few of the characters were perceived as somewhat being based on ethnic caricatures. Particularly Nute Gunray, Watto, & Jar Jar. I was pretty young at the time but I seem to remember this really only being a very mild controversy at best & really more of a joke to snicker about.

not exactly on topic, but it could be, one thing lucas didn't do was type-cast samuel l jackson. people probably thought he'd be a badass jedi ala jules winfield or just cool like a black character stereotype. but he was a more uptight / asshole jedi. neither did die hard 3 i guess so i guess it's not super impressive or anything.
