Something I still don't understand

Why was the Terminator driving and Sarah fighting off the T-1000? They very easily could have switched places. Also why didn't Sarah put on a bullet proof vest?

reply

Because John needed the bullet proof vests more than her. Also when they escaped there was not time to switch drivers.

reply

There were plenty of vests back there she could have taken one, also there was plenty of time to switch drivers, it would have taken like 5 seconds.

reply

They had the gas from the cops to worry about. And there were still a few cops who could shoot them on site.

reply

That was not an issue and the T-1000 didn't catch up to them until they were on the highway, they very easily could have swapped spots.

reply

Too many things were happening at once.

reply

exactly. it wasnt like the T-800 could say something like "hey guys let's regroup real quick."

LOL

reply

Ummm it would have taken 5 seconds to say "It's him, Sarah come up here and drive and I'll hold him off", you know how they did later after they switched vehicles. Sorry you still haven't been able to justify this.

reply

"hey guys let's regroup real quick."
Thats exactly what happened, when they got in the van and buried john in vests they had plenty of time to reload weapons , and figure out who was best employed driving and who should be fighting the t1000.

You have a position that you don't want to deviate from... that's fine.

But, I like to think like a scriptwriter, so here's an explanation for the sake of playing along.

Shooting clearly didn't have much effect on stopping the T1000. It only slowed him.

So their only chance to truly escape was to drive like hell and leave it behind.

Of the two skills, the T800 was better off taking the wheel than doing the shooting. Why?

i. Sarah has been incarcerated for a long period of time so her driving skills are probably less than optimal, more so under stress.

ii. Even if she was an average or good driver, the T800 still had the superior driving skills. Able to use a broader light spectrum to see potential dangers,* ability to instantly calculate speed and angles necessary to avoid obstacles that would slow them down, no fear that might cause him to second guess a course of action and hesitate which could result in catastrophe for them...

*The T800 seems able to see in the IR spectrum. So he would see the residual heat from tire tracks that might alert him to a car ahead but out of sight around a corner.

reply

That still doesn’t add up, the T-800s ability to not die after being shot was far more advantageous than his driving ability. Sara still knew how to drive, she drove from Mexico to Dysons house so it clearly wasn’t a problem for her. Heck they get John to drive later

reply

No, No, No, the really question is: Why even bother to shot T-1000?

After Shara got shot, T-800 hit the brake to crash helicopter, why not brake early?

reply

They were probably hoping they could crash the chopper, or if they shot the T-1000 he would lose control. (Kind of like what they did later when the T-800 shot him through the windshield and crashed the 18-wheeler of liquid nitrogen.

reply

In order to shot T-1000, it put Sarah in danger, why not just close van door, hit the brake?

reply

At that point the T-1000 was really far away.

reply

If helicopter is far away, no reason to shot it, just close the door, bullets can't penetrate that door.

If helicopter is close, no reason to shot it, too danger for Sarah, just hit the brake to crash helicopter.

reply

The T-1000 had an automatic weapon, he easily could have shot the van and either hit John or the tires and if the tires blow out they are all royally f-cked.

reply

If you think T-1000 can shot a moving car tire, you shouldn't even open the van door in the first place, T-1000 wouldn't even bother to shot tire, he would shot John.

That is SWAT van, door is bulletproof, just close the door.

reply

The T-1000 most definitely could have shot the tires from that distance, if he does that then all he has to do is land the chopper, walk over stab John and boom mission accomplished. I think it's within reason that the T-1000 has some kind of targeting system in his CPU to help him aim well.

reply

What I mean is: if T-1000 targeting is that good, can shot a moving car tire, you shouldn't eve open the door in the first place, T-1000 can easily targeting John.

The even better question is: if Terminator targeting system is that good, when T-1000 drive truck chasing John, why T-800 shot at the door? Why not just shot tire? It's truck tire, super huge, easy to aim.

Why T-800 has to rescue John first, then shot the tire?

reply

Well the T-800 did shoot the tire in the first chase, why he didn't when the 1000 is in the liquid nitrogen truck I couldn't tell you and that rocket he shot at the truck most definitely should have blown the truck up. If ANYONE was going to open the door (and yes keeping the door closed would have also been an option) and fire at the T-1000 it should have been the T-800 and Sarah should have driven if that was the case. I guess we can rank the three scenarios in order of common sense

1) Close the door - BEST OPTION
2) Sarah drives, T-800 holds off the T-1000
3) T-800 drives, Sarah holds off the T-1000 - WORST OPTION

reply

No, in the first chase T-800 shoot the door TWICE, why not just shoot tire?

reply

He did shoot the tire

reply

After he rescue John, why? He can shoot tire first. Why even bother shoot door, TWICE!

reply

I guess he didn't have a clear shot, or maybe he thought it was better to save John first.

reply

But he did have a clear shot. Why didn't he shoot the tire?

reply

Because the script was written that way. The end.

reply

I was just turning the tables on MovieChatUser497 a.k.a. fake human.

reply

and that fucking clown claims Dark Knight Rises is a perfect film and yet pulls this nothing burger of a nitpick to take issue with a legitimately great action film. What a tool.

reply

That is SWAT van, door is bulletproof, just close the door.

I'm gonna guess SWAT vans are not in fact bulletproof
anyone know for sure?

reply

Why would it have mattered if the T-800 was shooting the T-1000 anyways, you sure are trying to debunk a pointless topic. Unless the T-800 shot the M79 at the chopper it wouldn't have made much of a difference and I doubt the grenade would've just blew up the chopper by just shooting one at it. If that's the only straw you are trying to reach for okay fine, but otherwise even if the T-800 was able to shoot at it's head the whole time from the van it wouldn't have made much difference...

And for fucks sake listen to half you clowns, just close the doors on the truck and slam the brakes. Yeah okay sure that would've made the scene much more action and exciting give me a break, sometimes you gotta stop adding so much realism logic into a blockbuster action movie. Please don't ever try to be a film maker if this is how you question everything in cinema, seriously.

reply

What matters is Sarah wouldn’t have been shot

reply

Fair enough on that point, but it didn't alter how the final scenes played out. They still would've wound up in that steel mill which thankfully they did cause how else would they have beat the T-1000.

reply

I'm not surprised you don't understand something but this is not a plot hole

reply

I didn’t say it was a plot hole.

reply

Terminators make better drivers than humans

reply

Putting too much thought into the action sequences in T2 will bring to light a lot of things that don't make sense.

reply

She made a lot of bad decisions.
