Who was worse between Thornburg or Ellis?

I personally thought Ellis was the worst of the two characters, he was more cocky, annoying and obnoxious, I also thought Thornburg was an easier character to sympathize although he is also a jerk.

reply

Not exactly an answer, but William Atherton excels at playing jerks, tho he is a fine actor with a lot of range. That is probably why you find Thornburg more sympathetic

reply

Ellis.

Thornburg's job is to be a douche reporter etc. but Ellis is a coke addict who had no business giving Hans ANY information..

reply

True, but Thornburg released John and Holly's names while they were in the middle of a hostage situation. Any reporter with an ounce of ethics would not have done that. Then he barged into their home and not only did he tell their young children what was happening (this is something else the police would have handled, as well as be guarding their house), but he put them on live tv, while their parents are still being held hostage.

And he did NOT do this for any great journalistic responsibility, or so the people would know what was happening. He did it for his own glory and to make himself known nationally to further his own career.

reply

I´m gonna say Thornburg. He threatened an illegal alien with deportation just to get McClane´s kids on TV. He actually jeopardized Holly´s life by doing that. Ellis was just an arrogant blow-hard.

reply

I agree Billy Slater. Thornburg was worse. The guy who played Thornburg was Walter Peck on Ghostbusters. I would argue Peck was a worse person than Thornburg since he blew up a building and then accused the Ghostbusters of spraying nerve gas on people to make them see Ghosts without any evidence to back his statements.

reply

Yet on the first two Ghostbusters movies I thought Jack Hardemeyer was a worse character than Walter Peck.

reply

I agree Thornburg was a total dick with the way he treated the maid who was an illegal alien, at first I overlooked what a jerk he was in that scene because I didn't think he was nearly as evil as Hans Gruber.

I felt Thornburg deserved a worse comeuppance than Ellis to be honest.

reply

Ellis was dumb and meant no harm. Thornburg was smarter and coniving.

reply

I always felt being smarter & more conniving is worse than being dumb and not meaning any harm, I wonder if Thornburg knew Holly would be watching her children on TV.
