Guess what? Remake

I just recently saw this movie, and I didn't really like it, but it definitely wasn't bad. It was pure and true epicness. It's better than all the "epic" crap we have nowadays. I give it a 6/10 probably. The soundtrack was awesome (It's Queen, come on) and the story was really good and well acted. But for me, there were too many questions not answered, plots holes, and the ending was just like really?

After watching it I wondered if they'll ever do a remake. And I just found out today that a remake is being planned. No date is set or anything tho. I'm feeling kind of "eh" about it. It could be good, it could be bad.

How do you people feel about a remake?

reply

No need for a remake, just watch the sequel and all your questions will be answered.

reply

Lol, um, the sequel is considered terrible and fans of the movie say it's far from cannon and hate it. I won't ever watch it unless I'm forced to

reply

Same director, writers and actors in the sequel and so it is canon as far as I'm concerned.

Only thing missing is the Queen songs.

If you are adamant in not seeing the sequel then you could check out Highlander III: The Sorcerer and Highlander: Endgame (Which pairs up with Duncan Macleod's story if you want to see that TV show).

And if you don't like any of that then I still don't want a remake.

reply

I've seen the TV show, and it's not for me. I can understand why other people like it tho

reply

Which sequel? There are a few from which to choose, ranging from awful to worse than awful.

reply

Boycott. Can't never accept a remake without Lambert. He made Highlander.

reply

I don't think a remake could ever capture the spirit of the original. And anyone trying to fill the Kurgan role would fall flat. Not to mention, they'll probably have the Connor character played by someone like Zoe Saldana.

reply

they'll probably have the Connor character played by someone like Zoe Saldana.

And they'll probably make her a lesbian just to drive home the point that it's about "representation", further ruining the appeal of the film.

The Kurgan will obviously be a straight white male, and when the two finally collide it will be an angry lesbian getting revenge for the Kurgan having ravaged her woman.

Ugh... I hate thinking about it because that's sadly the reality that we'll be faced with if/when the remake finally releases.

reply

Henry Cavill is starring in the remake, so MacLeod is probably not a lesbian. Of course he could be playing the Kurgan....

reply

Yeah Cavill being on board is awesome, but he's a big dude and physically imposing. The Kurgan would have to be played by someone bigger, like the wrestler Drew Gallaway (pic below):

If they don't have someone bigger playing the Kurgan, then sadly you might be right and Cavill might end up being the one who is the Kurgan.

reply

If it stays true to the original story I'll be happy, it has a decent director attached also, and I’d love for them to include Queen’s music but if they can’t I’d be ok with a cover of Princes of the Universe by a metal band included, Iron Maiden would be my choice!

reply

IMO, Tom Hardy is about the only one at this time who could replace Lambert in the remake.

But who replaces Connery and Brown?

reply

Well, if you want a witty Spaniard - Antonio Banderas. And for the Kurgan - one of the Clegane brothers - McCann or Bjornsson.

reply

I like the Banderas suggestion ...maybe even Benicio Del Toro if they can't get Banderas.

For Kurgan, I could live with McCann, but would prefer someone even more menacing. Do you this Jason Mamoa could pull it off?

reply

He could, of course, but Kurgans are a Slavic tribe.

reply

Newsflash: Connery’s character was born Egyptian; he was only living in Spain at the time of the story. He adopted the name Ramirez because all the immortals periodically pretended to die and then assumed new identities to avoid attracting attention. You’d use Liam Neeson. Neeson is the modern default Connery substitute. For The Kurgan, Dominic Purcell, who plays Mick Rory on Legends of Tomorrow. For Queen, Queen, using concert recordings. The live version of A Kind of Magic has cojones the size of a Porsche Cayenne. Having said that, you don’t do a remake of this movie. Think of the remade Day The Earth Stood Still. It as an EMBARRASSMENT compared to
the “old” original. You don’t remake Forbidden Planet or The Exorcist or Silence of the Lambs or Ghostbusters (another remake fiasco) or The Crow or Highlander. You just don’t. The result is always a rough beast that just crawled out of Pet Sematary.

reply

how bout no?

reply

The original was a pile of crap, so I've no problem with a remake.

reply

And yet you have a problem with everything else, troll.

reply

Would watch a remake if done correctly and by someone with love for the original

Ignore 2 and The source

3, The series and Endgame aren't terrible IMO

reply

not forcefeeding the audience is what makes good stories, but i can see why modern movies are pure mindless trash. the audience demands it. in the 80s fantasy filled the mystery. there are zero plotholes.
to me highlander is one of the best movies ever made. solid 10/10
out of 700 currently rated on imdb by me.
remake would fall flat

reply

‘‘Tis a great movie.
