Why Hollywood Won't Cast Julia Stiles Anymore

They tried to find reasons. But the truth is that she never should have get the roles she got. She wasnt pretty and charismatic enough for them. But other actors carried those movies like in 10 things I hate about you.

But Hollywood tried to make her happened and showed her in everyone's throats. Which was weird to me back then. And then she simply aged out of teen roles. And she didnt have any talent to transition to adult roles. She is very one note.

i agree. good assessment

That was absolutely not a “good assessment”

She is definitely not one note, she is actually incredibly underrated, she has transitioned to adult roles and very well from what she has been in to reflect that.

💯

Hi Julia. Nice to see you here.

Always thought she was hot as hell

She's got a boy body, but she's definitely not ugly.

She wasn't great in "10 Things I Hate About You", the movie wasn't that great either, one of reasons I think is that she was still prettier than the girl who was supposed to be popular. She was cast probably because she isn't obviously pretty and likely low cost.

But she was great in "Save the Last Dance", I think she was cast because she studied ballet when she was little, so it was because her dancing skills.

I think her later movies were carried by her success in that.

Her career was pretty much over after "The Prince and Me", after that her career suddenly went off a cliff.

You must have been on the magic mushrooms again if you think that 10 Things wasn't a good film, and that she wasn't good in it.

Look at the box office numbers of "10 Things I Hate About You": https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt0147800/?ref_=bo_se_r_1

It wasn't just me thinking it was a lukewarm movie.

Look at the box office numbers of "Save the Last Dance": https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt0206275/?ref_=bo_se_r_1

You can see how different that is.

Save the Last Dance was absolutely panned compared to 10
Things.

reply

Yes, critically "10 Things I Hate About You" has done so much better.

But I think it is to do with "Save the Last Dance" using a prominently black cast, especially the black male lead who the white girl fell in love with.

At the time that kind of interracial relationship probably wasn't that big a crowed pleaser.

Because the qualities of the movies speak for themselves, through box office.

I thought she was great in Orphan: First Kill (2022)
Other than that, I really only know her from the Bourne films.

I've only seen in like four movies and she always made the film better, e.g. The Cry of the Owl, Blackway and The Drowning.

JoBlo Originals: What Happened to JULIA STILES?

Julia Stiles was among the best young actresses of the 90s and 2000s. She first burst onto the scene with the clever Shakespeare riff, 10 Things I Hate About You, which co-starred future stars Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. But, her follow-up, Save the Last Dance, made her a legitimate rising star, leading to roles in The Bourne Identity (and its sequels), The Omen remake, and many more. Yet, like many actresses from her generation, she seemed to struggle with finding a more mature role that matched her talent, and other than an arc on Showtime’s Dexter, much of her more recent work has flown under the radar.

Yet, with her now leading Amazon’s series, The Lake, Julia Stiles seems primed for a comeback. In this episode of What Happened to this Celebrity, we dig into the life and career of this underrated 90s star.

LOL at them calling her "among the best".

She had zero charisma, actin talent and she was not pretty and not hot. There was absolutely nothing in her and that's why public didn't care. I never liked her. She didn't even tried to act and pretend that she likes being there in movies. She was walking around with her boring mundane face and looked like he was annoyed all the time.

I never liked her back then and didn't understand why she is suddenly in our face all the time. Looked to me like nepo child, really. Don't know her family. But luck of talent, charisma and mundane face are the reasons she disappeared.
