I couldn't care less. She was just giving an honest reaction I suppose but let's flip it.

Bassett wins and Jamie Lee Curtis looks pissed off and doesn't clap. The racist accusations towards Curtis would be all over social media before Bassett stepped foot on stage.

reply

Now what do the POC call it? Biased racism? You know the stuff they throw people into sensitivity training for.

reply

The tides have turned now, and AA women feel "entitled", with an "of course I'm going to win, they owe us" attitude that the liberal media showers on us all.

Well guess what, sometimes awards are given purely on MERIT, and not on the color or colour of your skin.

POC, please realize that in the vast majority of cases, jobs go to the person best qualified. I'm not denying decades of racism, but I truly believe that today, jobs and awards are given based on merit and qualifications, not on skin color, either way. If anything, it's more the case that given two equally-qualified candidates, the POC will win to fill racial quotas, whether written or unwritten ones, and to prevent a discrimination lawsuit.

Yes. She truly felt that she was entitled to that Oscar since she was the only real black contender among 4 acting nominations with chance to get Oscar. And in her mind it had to be "shoe in", "because how can they not give it to her, they have to give at least one award for black people. Because diversity and everyone would call them racists".

So in her mind it was 99% she would get that. While those two asian actors kinda fulfilled that "diversity quote" in the mind of while woke liberals. So no one got crazy. While in her mind other races dont matter, only blacks are oppressed and entitled to charity awards.

reply

Wow. Are you psychic? You know exactly what this woman who you have never met was thinking in a moment?

reply

I'm a licensed Mind-Reader. That's exactly what she was thinking.

That's EXACTLY what the left can't admit are her true feelings. In checking off POC boxes, nothing spells diversity like B-L-A-C-K. (See: slavery, Civil Rights, Racism, etc.). Asians are less-likely to burn the town down if they don't get they's way. (See: Rodney King, George Floyd).

I'm inclined to believe that the Academy, despite obvious left leanings, is so deeply committed to the profession, they they actually vote purely on perceived merit and nothing else. Prove me wrong.

It's fine to show disappointment but you're at a friggin' award show, at least show some class or act like you have any from being rich and all that. She could've just sat there and clapped but not show any emotion, pretty much the same effect of what she was doing but with the clap adage.

Should've done a social experiment and put some Asian that won that award instead to see if she'd do the same thing.

reply

I was watching old videos (pre “woke” era?) of Oscar nominee reactions to losing. It was not unusual to see disappointment on the faces of losers. A handful registered zero reaction for the winner. Some of these actors are really unconventional people and socially inept. Some of the losers seemed to project genuine heartbreak. These chances just don’t come around very often (unless you’re Jack Nicholson). I don’t think Angela Bassett behaved any different than a surly Tom Brady after a playoff loss.

Angela Bassett wasnt in the mood for fake smile. I never understood that fake puppy over-joy other nominees are doing and are basically forced to pretend they are super happy that other person won. Its fake. Of course they are not. If they would knew that cameras are not on them then no one would cheer.

Angela was preparing to deliver her tearful rehearsed at the mirror 10 times speech and then it slipped away.

reply

I don't think that's completely true, especially for those who have won before, or for those who were never considered favorites. There are a lot of options between sulking without clapping or standing, and overjoyed, super happy cheering. You can be disappointed yet acknowledge the winner's moment, as she undoubtedly would've expected (and received) from others had she won.

And yes, like every favorite or near favorite, I'm sure she had a rehearsed speech at the ready, with part of that speech acknowledging all the other wonderful, talented nominees who gave great performances, including the one she didn't smile/clap for when it went the other way.

If this was the biggest controversy of the night I think last year’s telecast trumps this year in terms of drama.. Willie slapping beats Angie not clapping.

reply

I don't think "Trumps" is an acceptable term to use anymore, when referring to a room full of liberals.
