Don't watch his movies anymore

I am not going to feed a cult in any way shape or form.

reply

what?

reply

you have heard of Scientology

reply

so what?

reply

Read Lawrence Wright's book titled Going Clear it explains it all.

reply

What does it say? Scientology is harmless IMO stop demonizing it. Just because you were born in a christian fam doesnt mean you have to hate other ideologies by default

reply

dont like cults

reply

Some would say that Christianity is a cult too. Do you hate Christianity too ?

reply

Christianity has evolved to a benign force

reply

I guess you are right. i personally think Scientology is also benign. It is pretty harmless

reply

Pretty harmless? Apparently you haven't been reading and watching the same things as I have. Forcing a family to disconnect when one or two leave the cult is not "benign" or "harmless". It's pretty devastating to those who have gone through it. Just ask Nicole Kidman how it felt to be forced through this cult to be separated from her son and her daughter. Why was it Katie Holmes had to do what she did with subterfuge if it was "so benign"? Because of the fact that to him Katie and Suri are now supressive persons, Tom Cruise will not see his daughter. He has disconnected from a six-year-old. A six-year-old who was going to have to sign a one million year contract with the cult. Last I looked age of consent in the United States is 18, yet here they are saying that at birth these kids are formed human beings who can sign contracts. That's benign? Not in my book. This is a cult, no different than Jonestown, Heaven's Gate, Solar Temple, The Moonies......

reply

Christianity is NOT a benign force. It hasn't been since the Council of Nicea when Emperor Constantine made Jesus the son of god. It certainly is nowhere close to what Christ had in mind when he started it. It was a very left of centre force that said to live as you wish. Certainly it was never ever supposed to be a male-dominated religion as it was largely because of a temple priestess by the name of Mary Magdalene who changed it and molded it into that thing of inclusion, not exclusion. It was to her Christ intended it to be left, not to the men to bastardize and pervert it into what it has become. Certainly there was no desire for there to be a Pope. Most open-minded Christians are embracing that Magdalenic Ideal in that you can pray on your own, you don't need a middleman. The current day Christianity and its stance on abortion and controlling a woman's reproductive choices is not what Mary or Jesus had in mind. Christianity has not evolved, it's de-evolved.

All religions are harmful. There are factions of Buddhism that is also harmful. Same with Islam, Christianity, Scientology, you name it. A very informative video for your consideration:

It'll sum it all up for you. Stay to the end......

reply

"Scientology is harmless"

Go say that to Travolta's deceased son.

reply

I don't care about his "cult" thing I just love his movies.

reply

That's your choice. And if you don't want to be a hypocrite you had better boycott all Muslim actors as well because Islam hurts infinitely more people than Scientology in 2017. Hopefully you see how dumb you sound now. This is America. People are not judged by their religious beliefs.

reply

You can think whatever floats your boat (because well there is so many muslim haters out there anyways), but I personally would convert myself to Islam way before I would convert myself to scientology. Why? Because even though it has as well became a hateful and violent religion, at least it was created a long time ago and at the beggining wasn't at any level worse than Christianity. Just like with Christianity people just decided to interpret the old writings as they felt fit for them.

Scientology in another hand was created by a bunch of lunatics who decided to deny most of the things we know about science, medicine, education and general knowledge overall, and just like any other cults started to recruit other lunatics who were dumb enough to believe it. If only i could say that they don't try to convert anyone to their bullshit. But in my town there are scientologists walking in the street who give papers to insist anyone (and yes... Even fucking children) to join them. Everytime you walk next to their church, you are better to not meet any of them because they try to convince you to come inside and "open your eyes". This, is not okay. At least muslims don't try to convert anyone to their beliefs.

In anyway I'm an atheist, but if really I had to pick a religion, it would probably be Buddhism. I would avoid Scientology at any price, just like I wouldn't go for neither islam or Christianity.

reply

yeah Scientology takes your money.
The other ones take your soul.
i just picked Islam because believers of Islam have been shown to be more literal and strict in their belief that the laws in their book are absolute. Scary stuff. But Scientology is a scam. I agree. My point was at least it won't cut off your hand or kill your daughter for wearing a mini skirt. And people who are hard on tom cruise a lot of times give a free pass to much more dangerous streams of thought. I hate hypocrisy. Like where was the outrage against swastikas when Arabs were carrying them and burning stars of David in Washington DC and NYC in 2015? The media barely covered it because the offenders weren't white guys. And obama never called out hate and no one got mad at him. Anyone who did was called an islamophobe. But they were carrying swastikas! I just hate hypocrisy. I see it everywhere all the time. And I like tom cruise

I can't stand Tom Cruise or Johnny Depp!

In fifty, sixty years I think the majority of Cruise's films will be forgotten. Same goes for Deep (though Depp is definitely the more talented of the two). If any of Cruise's films stand the test of time it will probably be "Eyes With Shut" and "Magnolia" (and not because either one was particularly great but because the completists will want to see everything Anderson and Kubrick did). Honestly, when it comes to Depp, probably something really early in his career like "Nightmare on Elm Street." Regardless of whether it's good decades from now it will have the deathless allure "Dracula" and "Frankenstein" enjoy now.

I didn't see Magnolia but Eyes Wide Shut is actually an excellent movie. It was by far (with maybe The Shining) Kubrick's most mysterious movie. It's like there is so much to explore and discover that with every views I see and understand the movie differently. It is actually one of the few movies that I don't think I completely understood yet. And even though I am not by any means a Cruise fan, I think he did a more than decent job there. It is also SO psychological, and has probably one of the most disturbing scenes in the movie history, without it being necessarily made for the "shock value". And this is definitely the Kubrick's movie where his usual "color game" is the most present, confusing and absolutely interesting.

It is not my favorite movie from Kubrick (it is the third one because I am TOO much of a fan of A Clockwork Orange and The Shining), but it is definitely a great movie.

reply

To each their own I guess, but I definitely gotta disagree about Depp being a better actor. He's not bad by any means but highly overrated in my opinion. Its been so long since I've seen a Depp movie where he wasn't Captain Jack Sparrow or playing a character exactly like him. Cruise on the other hand I think is a whackadoo, but has made quite a few really good movies.

Even though I'd take Depp over Cruise anytime, I unfortunately have to agree with this statement.

His movies have been crap for years. I will still watch some of his old movies whenever I come across them, but I've never really been a fan of him anyway.

reply

STFU op and grow up....lol
