I’m kind of on the fence about this because on the one hand I can be totally sympathetic to someone being in a desperate situation and I can’t possibly understand what it’s like not to have food but at the same time I am often nervous about doing this because A) when I give them the money they could easily pull a knife out on me or B) they could just go and spend the money on drugs which means by giving them money I am harming them.
No. I give to animal charities instead. A human can do sonneting to help themself. A domesticated animal cannot. (I also give to a few wildlife rescue/rehab charities.)
Respect that. I do too. I support wild animal sanctuaries that protect endangered animals from poachers and habitat destruction.
For people, I do give when I have paper money to spare, but I rarely carry cash anymore. Instead, I donate to local food pantries and work centers. I volunteer to help out when I can too.
When I was in SF, I saw a guy give this woman change, and I remember turning around and giving her change. She said, "I might be able to get a cup of coffee with this" and then I asked if she wanted to have a cup of coffee. We did, walked, talked, and then to a Chinese restaurant before she parted ways.
Gotcha well that’s good you did that. My only concern about taking someone to give them lunch is I don’t know whether or not they are willing to mug me or something. I usually walk away when someone asks me for money or food because I’m concerned for my safety but at the same time I always feel horrible about myself afterwards
That little chinese restaurant in SF was the best food I've ever got.
Looooong ago, and it was looking somewhat dubious.
But clean...and hopefully I didn't eat the dog from the beach. ☻
Not much anymore. If they want food and I'm going into a grocery store, I might offer to buy them a bag of potato chips or something. But no to money, change isn't spare.
