How much do you tip restaurant servers?

For me, I'd say around 10-20 percent. I don't really focus on getting the math precise - just throw in the adequate amount of singles or fives or whatever.

It depends on several factors: -
What country I’m in.
Level of service.
Was a service charge already added?

reply

20% unless they're assholes.

Here in the US I tip 20% at a sit down restaurant, occasionally more depending on the service, but I'm not a fan of tipping,(which means I don't do it), at places like Panera where it's pretty much self service, but they have a place to add a tip on the bill.
Sometimes I will leave change in the tip jar at places like Starbucks, but I don't feel obligated to do that.

I noticed that the tipping situation has gotten crazy over there whilst I was on holiday. We were on Clearwater Beach and Miss K wanted to go on the bungee trampoline. When I bought the ticket, there was a tip jar at the ticket booth and then the guy that strapped the kids in also had a tip jar and kept announcing it every 5 minutes!

reply

Do you want your kids to be safe, remember to tip well

reply

We returned from holiday unscathed.

reply

Stuff like that is ridiculous.

reply

I agree.
Tip jars at the cashier in a deli are obnoxious.

reply

The guy expected a tip for taking my money and handing me a pre-printed ticket. I even used ApplePay, so he didn’t even have to handle money, lol.

reply

That's ridiculous! It appears that it's "open season" for begging for tips. Sheesh. 🙄

reply

I start at 20% and will tip up to 25% if I get what I consider to be "excellent service" (which mostly refers to making sure my boys and I get timely refills on our drinks).

reply

That’s a good system👌

Thank you! This is something I've really been grateful for in the "post-COVID world." I've been really fortunate in that most of the service that we've had when we've gone out to eat has been excellent. I think restaurants have really been hurting for servers since COVID and I really appreciate the employees who serve my family and me.

reply

It was 20% until menu prices starting going up the last couple years. Now I go out less and tip 15% (I'll do 20% if the service is particularly great).

reply

I usually tip according to my mood. I just don't understand the 10% rule.

reply

The only time I tip between 10% -15% is at a buffet, where all that anyone does is serve beverages and clean off the table.

reply

20 to 25%. Around Christmas probably 50%.

reply

DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH MONEY THE GUY AT THE TABLE NEXT TO ME LEAVES.😘

reply

Ha!
You scoundrel😄
