Movies that scared you as a kid

Pinocchio, the Disney one. Probably the scariest Disney film for me as a child-- funny enough, it's now my favorite Disney movie because it's so disturbing.

Also, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids-- the insects in that freaked me out, among all the other incidents those kids ran into.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone freaked me out during the scenes in the woods, specifically the scene with the unicorn blood. I was like seven at the time and watched the scene through my hands.

Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead. It was terrifying to me that a script so abhorrent could be green lit by a major studio. I was too naive at the time to realize just how shitty things could(and would)get

reply

I have never even heard of that but the title is so insane!!

reply

Even as a kid? Idk I loved it as a kid.

I always enjoyed seeing Christiana Applegate in a bikini as a kid

Ernest Scared Stupid was unexpectedly scary.

And for a Disney movie Bride of Boogedy was downright terrifying: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bride_of_Boogedy

"Night of the Living Dead". I don't know why I was watching it at 7 or 8 years old, but it was too much for me.

I liked other horror movies, the campy silly things they showed on "Creature Features", with their ham performances and rubber monsters. But there's real fear in "NotLD".

I was just as young watching Night of the living dead. Terrifying lol

I LOVE THAT MOVIE BUT WILL NOT WATCH IT...I HATE WHEN ANTIE DIES.

reply

That ant dying traumatized me so much lol.

I WATCHED IT WITH MY DAUGHTER RECENTLY...THE AMOUNT OF EMOTION IT ELICITED FROM ME WAS QUITE AMUSING TO MY DAUGHTER.

reply

No, not Antie! My poor heart can't take it, which is why I haven't watched it as an adult.

I remember this movie really creeping me out as a kid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTbY0BgIRMk Ironically, years later as a teen, I wound up working in the same theater where I had watched it.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981), Don’t Go to Sleep (1982) were 2 made for TV movies that scared the piss out of me when I was a kid.

Digby. There is a scene in the trailer when his owner is in his mouth that scared me and he looked like my next door neighbor’s dog.

Stephen King's It (1990) and Tremors (1990)
