I literally could not survive in the 90s

I have information at my fingertips at all times.

I couldn't imagine having to drive to a library to research something.

Or phone around everywhere asking questions

Or going out with pals and someone gets separated and having no means to message them.

Or going to a travel agent to book a flight that I can do in 3 minutes online.

The 90s must have been endlessly running errands. No thank you.

reply

the 90s were a better place in time for sure. the whole world was celebrating the end of the cold war.

now we just see the west decline and fall into chaos. guess the world needed the competition

and all the qol stuff? it just made the prison walls higher

I liked the fact that you could say or do something embarrassing at school without someone filming you, you looked a dick for a minute, that's it everyone forgets.

Same when drunk great night did I do something daft? Who knows oh well no one will ever no.

I'd hate to be in my 20s now worrying about dick heads filming constantly.

reply

it wasn't that bad ..

you just had to socialize and function as a normal human being that's all.

reply

And it was an era where Dana Scully hasn't yet gone overboard on the plastic surgery ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XGXgsgd97c ), and wasn't taking herself so seriously as to show up at The Women's March

reply

yo!

the X-files is still one of my fav shows
seasons 1-7 that is..

reply

It was rather strange that Scully/Anderson was that exposed in episode 1, het yet remained prim and proper throughout the duration of the series otherwise. Admittedly, I remember seeing her in her underroess in the trailer as a boy entering adolescence, and this being an incentive to check out the show

reply

I was a teen in the 90s. It was great 👍

reply

the 90s was the best time of my life. people interacted more and i feel like everyone was more social. all that technology at our fingertips have turned us into a bunch of slave monkeys looking down all the time. we are experiencing a technology led devolution of humanity and it is sad

reply

I literally could not survive your hyperbole. Literally. 😵

reply

Actually, it was great because no one could contact you on a whim. Spam came in the mailbox, it was called junk mail, and some mailmen actually threw it away for you. People made plans in advance. You could say something stupid and your friends would laugh, it wouldn't be on twitter. Women were hotter. People were less angry in general. You could walk into an airport, buy a ticket, and walk onto the plane, and no extra charge for luggage. People touched and hugged and it was okay. The stewardesses were attactive and sometimes gave you free booze. I am totally addicted to my phone and the internet but honestly the world was better without them.

reply

"People touched and hugged and it was okay."

I'm hoping you mean among people who knew each other and were of consenting age.

reply

Yes, in the 90’s we would usually get some type of written authorization, especially for hugging.

reply

Go outside and play.

This is what I mean when I talk about intrusion and invasion of privacy, which I've mentioned numerous times in the past. It's like you are now expected to be on call 24/7. Some people get all huffy if you don't respond immediately to a text message or voicemail. Sorry, but there are certain times of the day, and sometimes even entire days, when I don't want to be bothered. Get a life, folks.

reply

I have an app that sends any call not on an approved list to voicemail and you can set schedules. I don't mind text messages, and will just ignore them if I don't want to bother.

reply

We managed. Having information at our fingertips at all times has been both a blessing and a curse, as not all of that shit is especially well thought out or credible

reply

Let’s be more blunt: almost NONE of it is “thought out.” Almost all of it is triggered comments being shot from the hips of ill-educated and undisciplined posters, many of whom aspire to be Class Clown.

It’s profoundly sad how many of the posters here think they are funny.

True. The advent of Facebook and Twitter haven't been helpful. The days in which one had to build a website and offer either something valuable or at the very least entertaining had lots of perks over the world of today
