What does being an "animal lover" actually mean?

I apologize for the stupid question, but I guess I'm really naive and maybe getting the wrong idea when people say that they are.

For example, do I qualify or not?

-I'm not a pet person overall (although I have kept turtles and fish as pets before)
-I do not donate to animal charities.
-I have several animal phobias (for example: barking dogs).
-I don't really enjoy directly interacting with animals.
-I eat meat and other products of animal origin.

-However, I do sometimes feed birds and other wildlife that live in the city leftover bread.
-I occasionally like to study animals and their characteristics such as their behavior.
-Overall, I occasionally like to observe animals from afar.
-I like animated animals and similar creatures such as the ones in video games and cartoons.

I'm just wondering what you guys think about this.

reply

If all you’ve had as pets were turtles and fish, then I’m thinking your not a traditional animal lover as most think of them.

reply

Perhaps you're right.

reply

Animal lover is a person that love animals. Now, it's a subjective matter, but most importantly...

What is love?

Many animal lovers hate children. They use animals as a substitute for children.

reply

But children are animals.

Naahhh, I would not consider you an animal lover.

reply

I interpret "animal lover" as one who performs bestiality.

reply

YEAH...WE ALREADY KNEW THAT ABOUT YOU.🙄

reply

What, that I never let my dog sleep in my bed? Lol. I like animals fine but I think that's filthy.

reply

You can't spell bestiality without best.

reply

A love of eating animals is not bad.

reply

If God didn't want us to eat animals He wouldn't have made them so delicious.

reply

I only name my chickens after I kill them :
"Lunch" and "Dinner"

(joke from a film i watched last night,
probly the high point of it.)

reply

You're already interact with animals, they exist as bacteria like organisms, so there's no escaping them. Man evolved from Ape.

reply

Man did not evolve from Ape. Humans are apes.

Who knows. I love animals. I was always fascinated by them as a child and that has never gone away. I also love to hunt them, shoot them, eat them. I also use their skins and other body parts for leatherwork. Antlers, leg bones and jawbones make great knife handles. Is that weird?

reply

Too many on this thread misuse the term "love", hence my bestiality joke.

One can love their car as well. But love of a car and love of a pet are not really "love" and it's narcissistic to call it that.

Lighten up, Francis.

reply

I'm already light in my loafers, thank you very much.
