There's a great scene in "INTERVIEW w/t VAMPIRE" where the OLDEST LIVING ONE tells another one (BRAD PITT) that the other vampires aren't in touch with the age that they inhabit and can therefore REFLECT NOTHING back about it.

That's pretty much the way things appear to be now, is where we also have too many people who aren't IN TOUCH with what's happening, and can only REFLECT back things that have PREVIOUSLY happened before.

reply

I question how long they can keep this up. In 20 years, remakes will have remakes and planning another remake.

reply

Since There's already been 3 versions of "A STAR is BORN" made now, we don't need to WAIT for remakes of REMAKES to be made.

Because 1) There's the JUDY GARLAND VERSION.

And 2)The other one with Kris Kristofferson and Barbra.

And 3) the newest version with LADY GAGA (who was playing the part that JUDY and BARB had in the other 2 versions).

The last film that David Lynch made (called INLAND EMPIRE) was also about making REMAKES of REMAKES because it had the following stories in it:

1. THE POLISH GYPSY FOLK TALE VERSION of the AXXON N TALE (with the RABBITS)

2. THE GERMAN FILM VERSION (called 47)

1. AMERICAN FILM VERSION (called OH HIGH in BLUE TOMORROWS)

So LYNCH was also already in TUNE with "making REMAKES of REMAKES" back when he made IE.

reply

Actually four versions. There was one made in the 30s before the one with Judy Garland.

reply

Damn.

So that means we got REMAKES of REMAKES of REMAKES now???

Whatever happened to ORIGINALITY???

🧐

reply

They already remake films that are only a few years old. That blows me away.

reply

Well there was that Disney movie from a few years ago plus Return to Oz in the 80s. My guess is this will be the pointless diversity remake.

reply

As long as they use real munchkins and witches.

reply

I like remakes as long as they turn the white characters black.

reply

They're going to turn the Tin Man into Iron Man to appeal to a wider audience.

reply

And Toto into Cujo.

reply

Its about time we had a black Iron Man in the Oz universe.

reply

Its a great idea!
and this time we'll put a woman in the lead role , and make the sidekicks into dopey men !!!
...oh wait

reply

"Hello, I am Walter Ditch formerly known as Wicked Witch."

reply

they don't remake (and steal) em like they used to!

reply

It's true though. What's the last good remake?

reply

Lots of people still don't realize how SHAKESPEARE also STOLE many of his PLAYS from other writers.

The TRICK is to try and do a BETTER JOB after you STEAL an IDEA and then try to get all of the CREDIT for having created it yourself.

reply

And then they steal from Shakespeare and the cycle of thievery continues.

reply

Yes, but for some reason the "CYCLE of Thievery" also seems to have ESCALATED lately with all of these NON STOP REMAKE versions of other stories that they keep churning out.

😏

reply

"The Outrage" which was the American re-make of "Rashomon"

reply

They remade Rashomon? The Outrage!

reply

ha ha

Some remakes are pretty solid

Rob Zombie remade Halloween and it was very good and the 2013 Josh Brolin remake of Oldboy had a possibly superior version of the famous hallway fight scene...both scenes are on youtube and well worth checking out by the way

I had an art professor ages ago, nice guy, he was into collage and his wife was a watercolorist...neither was ever happy with their work even though it was pretty damn fine work

They told me 'it's all been done.'

Maybe the film makers are just out of ideas at this point

reply

There's inspirations, similarities and outright remakes. Most of the Hollywood remakes offer nothing new from its predecessor.

reply

The Friday The 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street remakes were not very good but the recent King Kong and Godzilla movies were great fun

I really liked those!

reply

i don't watch them

reply

The 1939 classic was itself a remake

reply

Was the original a short?

reply

Mind blown. I might have to check this out.
