Is it okay to say to someone "you're really short"

I ask because I just read this:

“‘Wow, you’re really short.’ I get that a lot,” Scarlett Johansson, who stands at 5-foot-3 told Cosmopolitan UK. “[They say] ‘You’re a lot shorter than I thought you were.’ I’m like, ‘Wow, how is that ever okay to say to someone?'” she asked. “It’s so bizarre. Yes. It’s, ‘You’re really short.'”

reply

I'm 5'3" and in a million years I can't figure out why that would be offensive.

reply

I'm short and don't care if people mention but would if used to bully.

Hollywood generally doesn't shoot looking down on someone so we just assume actors are average height or taller.

I was absolutely shocked when I saw this picture of Bruno Mars because I thought he was average height.

Actually Taylor Swift is just really tall.

reply

She is tall and then in heels but he looks like a midget, literally.

reply

5'3 isn't even that small for a female, it's pretty normal.

reply

My wife is 4'11'' and laughs about the fact that she is so short. She would never be offended if someone mentioned it.

reply

She would get mistaken for a child from behind.

reply

She still gets asked for ID in pubs.

reply

CHILDS BEHIND?🤔

reply

Notice how I side stepped that particular rabbit hole.

reply

We just say "Sup Shawty" nowadays.

reply

It is ok to say that to white people. But not people of color.

reply

Because she’s so tall on the big screen.....? 😆
It seems society likes celebrities to be tall, even women....and it can be surprising to ‘build them up’ so to speak and then be shocked that they aren’t actually x feet tall.
Hey, at least ScarJo’s a tad taller than me!

What type of answer would the questioner expect, gee thanks I didn't know that. Maybe its semantics but you could say I thought you would be taller, or go the Roadhouse route and say I thought you would be bigger.

reply

Yes because they look at me and say I'm tall.

reply

Being tall sucks. Everything is made with short people in mind. Ironing boards only go up so high.

reply

YOU ARE DEFINITELY MOVIEBUFF.🙄

reply

It doesn't suck but you are prone certain health issues. I had to get a herniated disc in my lower back repaired about 8 years ago.

reply

Depends how tall you are. Some tall people hunch or lean over a lot. They're not comfortable towering over people.

reply

I'm only 6'2" but I don't like women who are barely above 5ft. They make me feel like a freak of nature for being a lot taller than them.
