Judgment at Nuremberg (1961)
Schindler's List (1993)
The Diary of Anne Frank (1959)

All solid choices.

I wonder what Brux would choose.

reply

Why brux?

reply

He hates whenever Nazi stuff comes up on these boards, even if it's a joke.

Conspiracy (2001)
Black Book (2006)
Bent (1997)

reply

Conspiracy (2001) is really good, and contains Kenneth Branagh's best performance.

reply

I've looked for this online but can't find it anywhere. I saw a German film called The Wannsee Conference instead.

reply

Keep looking. I found it online, so it's online :) Haven't seen The Wannsee Conference (1984), but judging by it's IMDB rating it seems to be very good also.

reply

The depiction in War and Remembrance (TV Mini-Series 1988–1989) is the most harrowing that I have ever seen

reply

Schindler's List (1993)
Life is Beautiful (1997)

Can't think of a third, sorry.

The Pianist
a hidden Life
the Greyzone
jakob the Liar

reply

I saw the grey zone a few days ago. Odd casting I thought, but a well told story. The shower scenes were harrowing to watch.

Are Nazisploitation films allowed, or just serious movies?

Have you seen Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS? -- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071650/

reply

I have the dvd. 😀

reply

On a side note: Dyanne Thorne, the actress who played Ilsa, ran a wedding service in Vegas and I was there with my wife a couple of years ago. I ran the idea of a second wedding in Vegas Ilsa style by my wife while we were there and she said “hell no!”

Unfortunately Dyanne Thorne passed away a year ago.

reply

> Dyanne Thorne, the actress who played Ilsa, ran a wedding service in Vegas

I didn't know that. If the scuttlebutt on the Internet is correct, she would officiate dressed as Ilsa and perform the ceremony with a German accent. That would be something to see!

I've got the DVD too, but haven't looked at it in several years. I'll have to dig it out and watch it again.

reply

“scuttlebutt on the Internet”

Well, whenever I went to her site about the weddings there was no mention of her dressing in the Ilsa get up. Who knows though?

reply

i have never watched any of these. are they considered comedies?

reply

They are exploitation films that used the Nazi camp setting to exploit sex and violence to sell tickets. Many were made in Italy during the 70’s by the same directors who had also delved in spaghetti western and poliziotteschi films. Several have become cult classics like the Ilsa films, which were Canadian productions, with the first entry being filmed on the set of Hogan’s Heroes. They are not intentionally humorous, and the genre is basically a strange oddity in film history.
