In Honor of Blazing Saddles getting a “proper social context disclaimer”...

I think we should mock the living shit out of these people who think we are morons and need everything put into the “proper social context” for us.

Thank you HBO Max, for letting me know what is wrong and what is right in film, otherwise I would have no idea. I couldn’t figure out that Blazing Saddles was satire. I can't figure any of this stuff out unless they tell me. 🙄

Pick a film you think should get the “disclaimer”, and then explain what the “disclaimer” should say. If we can’t stop the humorless, pathetic, self righteous, “moral authority” in this country, keep ripping on how idiotic they think we are.

So...in this offended pussified new world, I now demand a disclaimer for “Jaws” to tell me that sharks eating people is bad, but they can't help it because they are just animals.

Can you think of any good disclaimer warnings to protect us from the “dangers” of films like Blazing Saddles and Gone With The Wind?

I might need another disclaimer for “Rocky” to tell me it’s bad to break people’s thumbs. 🖕🏻

Gremlins social context disclaimer: “Hey white middle class suburbanites, don’t feed little creatures you stole from a chinaman after midnight in the time zone you live in, or they will destroy your town. However, please respect these creatures way of life. It is NOT ok to cook them in a microwave when they are trying to kill you.”

Ghostbusters disclaimer: “This film was set in a time where only white men and one black man could fight ghosts, and the EPA was not seen as the wonderful non corrupt organization it is today. Also, please be sensitive to Slimer...he can’t help it he’s overweight. This film was set in a time where it was ok to make fun of fat ghosts, which is frowned upon in today’s enlightened society.”

First Blood Disclaimer: “Don’t fuck with Rambo, you progressive douchebags.” 🖕🏻

HBO/Max disclaimer for John Wick 3: "This film depicts numerous gratuitous murders, which is not acceptable in today's society, as long as HBO can still get high ratings and lotsa money for numerous gratuitous murders in HBO shows like Game of Thrones."

General Disclaimer for films made before 2000: "These films were made at a time when people weren't as easily offended. They contain, ideas, stories, dialogue and characters which will most likely offend if you are a snowflake. Should you choose to, it is even more likely that you will find things that upset you in these films that were not mentioned in this warning".

Tootsie- We know that mocking cross dressers or transvestites is insensitive, but Michael Dorsey needed the work. Also it's wrong to pretend to love one woman when you've fallen in love with someone else. Michael was a sexist jerk. Men are scum. We realize that now.

reply

lol yep. Also, a man shouldn't have to pretend to be a woman to be a better man. I recall Dorsey saying that dressing as a woman made him a better man, which is really stupid.

I honestly don't see how "Blazing Saddles" isn't politically correct. It's an anti-racist film, featuring a black hero who's smarter, cooler, and kinder, and generally better than all the white people around him.

Really, the only thing definitely not PC is the "indian chief" played by a white man who's speaking Yiddish, but that was a parody of Hollywood miscasting. And in that, Mel Brooks should get credit for bashing Hollywood whitewashing, decades before it became fashionable.

Amen.

Old Yeller should have a disclaimer warning of extreme gun violence and pet murder.

reply

Yeah, to put it in the proper “context”, they would have to let you know that you should only murder your pet if it has rabies. Otherwise we as viewers would have no idea. Thank god these people are out there with disclaimers to put our favorite films in the proper context for us! 🤣

To be fair, HBO might be doing it only to cover their own asses. To be blunt, only spineless, morally flabby, would-be men without balls would feel a need to cover their own asses by attaching a disclaimer to that movie.

Here's another one, from The Producers (1967) -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPXHRX8Q2hs

Disclaimer: "This movie contains a musical number praising Adolf Hitler. Anything praising Hitler is, of course, offensive. However, here it is not meant to be taken seriously as praise of Hitler, and in fact is intended to be offensive within the context of the story for comic effect. This does not change the fact that it is offensive. Thus, viewers may be puzzled as to how they're supposed to react and may require instruction. The critical factor here is that this film was written by a Jew, and the two leading performers are both Jews. For this reason, the proper reaction is to enjoy the humor and laugh; and in fact if you do not do so, you are an anti-Semite."

Oh, I’m sure HBO is covering their asses. I highly doubt they really care about any of this over the top ridiculous bullshit. But there comes a time to stand up and say “ok, this has gone way too far. Get over it, and if you don’t like it, don’t watch it.” People feel an unrelenting urge to lecture everyone in today’s world, like we’re little children. I will call out bullshit like “proper social context” movie disclaimers until I no longer breathe.

As for the disclaimer: 🤣👍🏻
