Hantavirus has always been around. It's endemic in the American West, a friend of a friend died of it back in the 1980s. It's a horrible illness, and can be quickly and firmly fatal, but it doesn't spread from person to person, and can be kept away from humans by controlling rodent populations.

Did you know, since time immemorial the Navajo have believed that you MUST, at ALL COSTS, keep mice out of your house? When the white people first found that out they thought "Ugh, the savages and their primitive superstitions", and then a couple of centuries later they found out that the mice of the Four Corners region were Hantavirus carriers. The Navajo had been absolutely right to be vigilant about keeping the mice away from their homes.

I only read the Bible for tips on how to cut my beard and trim the hair on the sides of my head. I figure that should be good enough to get me into heaven.
