Movie you love but think not many others have seen.

Triangle ...Mystery 2009
Chasing Sleep..mystery 2000

reply

I'm going to add Picnic at hanging rock 1975 and Walkabout 1971. Weirdly after all these years these are the movies that stick in my head.

reply

Great films. I love both of those as well.

reply

I haven't seen the 75 Picnic, but I recently saw Walkabout, and thought it was a great film.

reply

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Nobody outside India has seen it!

reply

The IMDb pictures looks adorable for this. I'm going to check it out.

reply

Don't say I didn't warn you!

i don't know a single one of those films, except take me to the river, which i agree is quite good.

reply

They are all worth seeing. Some of them are Criterion, so they may be on the Criterion channel now or in the near future.

reply

i'll keep an eye open. thanks!

reply

Medium Cool - 6/10
Sundays and Cybele - 7.5/10
I Knew Her Well - 6/10

I turned off "The Naked Island" after 20 minutes or so, but I really liked Onibaba (8/10) and Kuroneko (7.5/10)

reply

Triangle made my head hurt.

reply

i liked triangle. have you ever seen time crimes? that's probably my favourite low-budget time shenanigans film.

reply

No but it does look intriguing on imdb. Am I the only one who has a second window open for Imdb to respond on this site . and if I'm honest the dictionary, I hate spelling things wrong.

reply

i don't use imdb myself. if i'm looking into a film i'll usually go to letterboxd & its wiki page.
as for spelling errors, i just rely on the squiggly red lines that pop up in my dialogue box. but on sites that don't have such a thing, i do usually run my posts through a google doc or an online spell-check tool.

reply

I liked Triangle but I thought Time Crimes was really bad. WAY too many idiotic and unrealistic mistakes that no one with a modicum of intelligence would make.

reply

The Spirit of St. Louis (1957)
Gilbert (2017)
King Rat (1965)
Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
The Bounty (1984)
Bobby Fischer Against The World (2011)
Cromwell (1970)
Breach (2007)
Young Winston (1972)
Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973)
The Gathering Storm (2002)

reply

I have always loved The Bounty (1984)!

reply

One of Anthony Hopkins's best performances imo

reply

Breach is underrated. Chris Cooper was great and deserved an Oscar nom.

reply

Agreed. He truly was, and truly did.

reply

I've seen all the Bobby Fischer documentaries and they were all good.

reply

these are the films i gave 5 stars on letterboxd in the last 2 years or so that i suspect most people won't know.

tower (2016) incredibly tense doc on the charles whitman university of texas mass shooting that used roto-scope animation brilliantly. some may have seen it, but it deserves to be more widely known, i'd say.

madeline's madeline (2018) got a lot of critical praise last year, but haven't seen much evidence that it broke out of its small indie bubble.

rat film (2017) weird, experimental documentary, & quite current, since it focuses in part on rat infestation in baltimore, a timely issue since someone you may have heard of chose to spout off on twitter about such matters.

my life as a zuchinni (2017) 100% charming & deeply moving french stop-motion animation about kids in an orphanage.

Looks very interesting. A Mystery I assume...

reply

An adventure! I highly recommend it; it's different.

This is another one from the same year https://moviechat.org/tt0059675/Sands-of-the-Kalahari. I also read the book to this one.

reply

Two thumbs up for The Naked Prey

reply

I’ve never seen it but I think I remember it being referenced on Mad Men once.
