The most haunting final shot in a movie?

The Days of Wine and Roses

reply

Pretty obscure one:
"Six String Samurai" - the music , the emerald city / Lost vegas

I've been back to watch the last 30 seconds more than once.

The Godfather or The Graduate

reply

The Descent.

Since I spied it in trending. Wasn't Eden Lake's ending a bit?

reply

I'm hoping you mean the original ending. :)

S P O I L E R S ! ! ! ! !

The one where she is still in the cave with her imaginary daughter.

reply

Yeah, the American ending was a shock when I saw it as I'd seen the original first and was expecting more.

reply

Planet of the Apes (1968).

reply

That's a great one.

reply

The ending of the sequel Beneath was also a big shocker for my 12-year-old self. A bloody hand slipping off the lever, the screen fading to white as the alpha/omega bomb ignites and that sombre voice announcing "a green and insignificant planet... is now dead". Bleak.

reply

The blair witch project

reply

Yep, thatโ€™s the one.

reply

the perfect host

Let's Scare Jessica To Death.

reply

Wow. Someone else knows about this movie! I saw this at a drive-in when I was a teen... I don't remember the ending specifically, but I do remember how it creeped me out.

reply

Very atmospheric...
Very early 70s! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I was in my late teens back then.
I love this movie. I have it. I'm waiting til October to watch it again. Another month, and I'm in Horror Movie Heaven!

reply

My gawd! It gives me the chills just thinking about this! Yikes! And the look on Valerie Harper's face OMG!

reply

Oh yes! Really creepy! And those towns people!
I'm afraid that you may have some actresses mixed up. I can understand that because of how old this film is. Valerie Harper wasn't in this. Zohra Lampert starred as Jessica. I have seen her in a lot of things... good actress. Gretchen Corbett played the girl who was living in the house before they came.... and was invited to stay.
She also played John Boy's teacher on The Waltons. ๐Ÿ˜‰
You know, the more I think about it, the more I want to see it right now. Why wait? It's on this afternoon!

reply

Oh yes, I do indeed have it confused with another TV movie. I did see "Jessica". The one I am speaking of is "Don't Go to Sleep "(1982).

I don't remember too much of either film, but do remember the 70's being the heyday of fantastic scary TV movies! What a delight back then to watch these.

reply

At this point it would be in Heavenly Creatures because I watched it recently and it's still fresh in my mind.

reply

Now that is a brilliant, but little known movie.

reply

So then I can assume it would have qualified for your film club during its heyday ?

reply

It very likely would at some point if I had remembered it.
