Charade (1963)

But you said I could only choose this: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0267804/

reply

Wrong. They said: "only one." not "the one". The film they are referring to is this:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233418/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_3

2001: A Space Odyssey. It's the only movie I rate 10/10. There is only one minor error in it as far as I can tell.

I'm afraid to watch '2001', that it will never hold to the high expectations I have for it due to all the reception it's has gotten over time.

You can't live your life in fear, A. Go see it, and find out what everyone was talking about. Here's a trailer:

It doesn't even need words.

It's amusing hearing people trying to describe the film. It's never the same story. Thanks to an earlier post you made, I'm aware it recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Personally, I thought I'd wait to be a mature adult before seeing it. I'm convinced now is the time.

I saw it when I was a lad of 18, and was stunned and mesmerized by it. I went home and sat in the living room
for three hours just trying to process, assimilate and comprehend what I had just seen. I've never had that same reaction to another movie, not even close. It is unique. I have since seen it about ten times. No other film can touch that either.

And people either love it or hate it. There is no middle ground. You're an intelligent person. You should see it.

I'm sure that while watching the film it will transport me to a interdimensional realm where all thoughts of it are absent of, bringing essence of a clear mind, haha!

Thank you for replying... I have never watched it... thanks to you I will this weekend!

You're welcome. If you enjoy it half as much as I did, your time will be well spent. Please let me know what you think after viewing it. Thanks.

What's the minor error?

As Dr. Heywood Floyd is traveling to the moon in the Orion Shuttle, he's shown eating a meal. He sucks at a tube drawing a yellow liquid (corn perhaps?) up to his mouth. When he stops sucking, the yellow liquid sinks back down in the tube.
Since there is no gravity in space, in reality the yellow liquid would remain in the tube, and not sink back down.

I just checked the "Goofs" section on IMDB, and it contains a long list of mistakes, including this one. Imagine my embarrassment.

Good pick up. I'd never noticed that and I've seen it countless times. I'm surprised the ever perfectionist Kubrick let that one slide

reply

Even Kubrick was not perfect.

Blues Brothers (1980), hands down. There's just something about two contrasting sleazebuckets doing good for change in some of the most ridiculous yet conceivable ways possible, by doing what they love best, playing music while treating the unfolding events around them like it's no big deal.

Whether or not it's true, it improves the enjoyment of the film even more, in my opinion.

reply

I've tried watching it before, I'm not American... I feel it's a very American movie and of a very particular era... it's been a couple of yours since I tried watching it, so I will give it another try... thank you for replying.

reply

I'd be curious what you think about, had not occurred to me from your perspective. It was one of the first adult humor films I could understand in my youth.

Master and Commander

Conan the Barbarianβ€”the REAL one, dircted by John Millius, script by Millius and Oliver Stone, as macho and Teutonic as it gets. In terms of High Adventure, as good as it gets.

This was hard for me but I managed to settle with Manhunter (1986).

Dave (1993) with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver. I can watch anytime. The feel good movie to put aside any issues in the World.

The public enemies with Johnny Depp

reply

Really? For me, that was just a standard mobs/cops movie - nothing special. I must admit Johnny Depp was really good in it. Everybody is different, I guess.

reply

I'm a big John Dillinger fan...This was movie since Ed Wood that I watch millions of times...

Aliens (1986)

It pretty much has everything I could want from a movie.

reply

It's a wild ride from start to finish. The confrontation towards the end demonstrated humanity at its finest hour.
