Some black dude got upset with me at the library.

I was at the computers and I was printing something out and I was thinking out loud muttering what I was about to do. Then some black dude next to me was like, "You gotta make them sounds man?" in a gravely voice. I just muttered "Sorry" really fast then finished printing my papers,... but it was still awkward and embarrassing, and I'm thinking about it.

He shouldn't have been harsh but maybe he did you a favor by pointing it out. Wouldn't you rather have someone be straight with you than just shun or avoid you? Sometimes people tap a pencil and its annoying, but most of the time no one ever says anything, they just avoid or quietly resent that person.

reply

Libraries are supposed to be quiet. I am not sure what race has to do with it, but it does not sound like he was rude to you, just by asking you to pipe down.

reply

Would you still be thinking about it if he had been another color?

reply

A common technique of trolls is to casually insert race, body type or gender in a conversation in hopes of triggering a response. I usually avoid addressing that intentionally because that's what they want to see.

reply

Bingo!!!!

reply

Yep

reply

Agreed!

reply

yep yep agreed..Ignore the trolls

reply

I have no doubt that this one is a troll. This person has not come back since posting.

reply

I don't think it was rude of him. It was rude of you to make sounds. I have noticed over the last 20 yrs, that there is NO rule for quiet at the library any more. Even the librarians talk, and quite loudly.

reply

The libraries near me whether large, or small, are all quiet. Thank goodness.

reply

you are lucky. It's almost as if the libraries don't even have the rule or quiet, or don't even know!

reply

Sometimes we can get so completely involved with the task at hand we tend to forget our surroundings. I have a strange habit of drooling when I'm focus on my gardening. I water the flowers, perhaps?

I would've thanked him and apologized. And really, someone's 'color' doesn't have a thing to do with anything. Try taking someone based on their character instead.

[cheers]

He sounds like an asshole. Don't printers (and clicking computer mice and tapping keyboards for that matter) also make a lot of noise? If he wanted quiet, he should've gone to a different part of the library.

<< "You gotta make them sounds man?" >>

I would say, "Apparently".
.

reply

what was the point of mentioning that he is colored? It doesn't add to the story.

reply

"Colored?" Seriously?

reply

sorry,w hat do those people like to be referred as/? whats the vernacular term?

reply

"those people?" What decade are you living in?

Generally, black or African-American is accepted. And before you ask or assume, I'm white. I just try to be a little more sensitive
