Your Names

I see all sorts of interesting names here. Share what they mean, how you ventured into creating the name, what inspired you, and if the name is what you had on IMDb.

I was an aircraft maintenance officer in the US Air Force.....maintenance is sometimes abbreviated slang "MX".....I used to update the year every year but I quit in 2015.....I retired from active duty in 2012 after 26 year career.....yes this is the same name I used on IMDb

reply

I salute you Sir! I've 2 offspring who're US Air Force.

reply

Thank you for your service sir! I salute you!

reply

Why did you give up in 2015?

reply

Mine comes from a Kelly Clarkson song called How I Feel.

"This fire is getting hot again
But I touch the flame 'cause I'm a curious cat"

reply

KC is awesome.

reply

Kelly has some serious pipes, doesn't she? The same can be said about Katharine McPhee and Carrie Underwood too.

reply

IMO, Kelly is the best singer that ever came out of American Idol. No one else ever came close to her. The original is always the best. ;)

reply

I have to agree with you...although Carrie Underwood in a close second, in my opinion, even if she does tend to scream her songs...especially live. Katharine McPhee isn't far behind either.

reply

True, they are all awesome. But I literally get chills at times listening to Kelly.

Now you got me thinking of a KCK supergroup...a Destinys Child of Idol winners. Somebody get their agents on the phone!

My name is April. I was nicknamed 151 about 10 years ago because my preferred drink is Bacardi 151Β° and I live in Connecticut. And this is my IMDb screen name.

reply

I remember the first thing I said after drinking that stuff years ago, "Hmmm...I wonder if I should light my cigarette?" 😲

And on that note...I must say that, after 38 years of smoking, I gave it up, cold turkey, on July 4th, 2011!

reply

I'm heading towards quitting in the next 2 months. I'm terrified.

reply

You can do it Babe! Be brave my friend! I'm rooting for you! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘

reply

Good luck! I have faith in you! β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ»

Nothing against you smokers, but I just never understood how or why people get into it in the first place. I mean, you're literally inhaling smoke... And I have asthma, so almost every time I pass someone smoking I have a coughing fit. Once I had to get a wheelchair to be rolled to a First Aid building in Universal Islands of Adventures because I couldn't f**ing breathe after passing by a poorly-ventilated smoking area. 😨😷

I understand that it's an addiction and hard to control. But just please try to be considerate of other people when/ if you do smoke/vape.

reply

Babestation, after 40 years I changed to vaping. I started writing a list of the reasons why I don't miss smoking which is up to about 72 right now. I was amazed at the hindrances.

I did a paper on cigs in University. There was 1 reference book, among many, that was so detailed explaining what happens from the moment you take the first drag TO the moment you light up another one. It also had every other major drug listed in detailed chapters. It was actually the best book on the subject(s) I'd encounted then or in all the years since. I went back to check it out (library) and someone had stolen the book.

The book also explained why cigs were harder to stop than heroin. Too, in great detail, why after each attempt it gets harder & harder to stop smoking for good.

Don't be terrified. Yes, you'll be giving up a habit, a routine you've become very familiar with like an old friend, and I'm not gonna lie, it's a real pain for the first 5 days. I probably said "JUST F*** IT!!!" 100 hundred times a day..until the 5th day. But like my list, start your own and every time you want to give back in read the list.

I've been vaping for 2 yrs and hope to give IT up before the 3rd.

reply

I gave it up 3 years ago after 30 years.

reply

Wow, this is just a general message to all of the above...congrats to those who have given it up and to those trying! Smoking has ravaged and plagued my family so I am very familiar with its affects and damages. So much so it instilled a huge disgust and aversion within me towards it (the cig not the people), which thankfully means, I've never once even had the urge to handle a cigarette let alone smoke it.

It's hard for me to grasp, but I do have the utmost empathy for anyone going through any sort of addiction, especially one as intense as nicotine. I wish you all well in this endeavor and the best of luck keeping it up!

reply

Thank you Dreamers!

reply

Congrats on that. I only smoked for a year and it was tough to quit. Cannot imagine how tough it would be after 38 years.

reply

Thank you so much Jack! Yes, it's definitely one tough battle! You know what's funny though? It really wasn't that hard for me as I was in so much pain at the time. You see...I had Avascular Necrosis in my right hip and for several years, my hip was gradually disintegrating until it got to the point of nearly breaking. I had less than 1/4 of my bone socket left before I was finally able to have it replaced. The reason I didn't have it replaced sooner was because Avascular Necrosis can often reverse itself and the affected joint can rebuild itself. Unfortunately, mine didn't. I had never experienced so much pain in my life as I did with that! From the end of 2008 towards the end of 2011, most times I could barely even walk. So, I was finally referred to a surgeon to get a total hip replacement but he wouldn't touch me until I quit smoking for 3 consecutive months. So, without hesitation, I quit 2 days later, July 4th 2011 and on the following Oct. 3rd, had the surgery. I felt tons better right after it too! Afterwards, I had decided to stay smoke free from there on out. And that's my story on how and why I quit and have absolutely no desire to ever start again.

reply

Congrats on both, StyxNyx!!!

Thank you neverstandinalone!! πŸ˜ƒ

Kawada is my favorite character in Battle Royale. And Kira refers to Kira from Death Note, my favorite TV series.

reply

I love Battle Royale. So raw and intense.

I got the idea in my head that back when black and white media was the main thing they'd say colored things were in full color. I don't know if that's true or not. I was on another movie forum trying to thing of something vaguely movie related and that came into my head. I just called myself Colors there, but then went with FullColor on IMDB and subsequently here.

reply

They'd say coloured things in full colour? Could you explain what you mean as I'm totally lost but totally intrigued. And whenever I look at your name, I get a burst of rainbow skittles and vibrancy in my soul.

reply

I don't know if they actually did say colored media was in full color (as in, using the phrase as a way to describe it), I just somehow got the idea they did.

"And whenever I look at your name, I get a burst of rainbow skittles and vibrancy in my soul."

:D Haha!

reply

[deleted]

Thank you for sharing. I like learning something new. :)

reply

When I saw your name it reminded me of the NBC peacock. NBC started using the 'full color' peacock in 1956 to highlight the network's color programming (Wiki).

"they'd say colored things were in full color." Yep, they did.

reply

I remember when they said "In Living Color" with the NBC peacock
and then years later that became the name of the comedy/variety show

reply

"In Living Colour", I remember that too.

reply

I can't believe this is exact replica of IMDb message board, but anyway I chose foxhound as my user name because I'm a fan of metal gear solid series and I'm here to stay

reply

Not really. Where are the message boards on IMDb? Hmm?

Lol. I fell for that as well. Someone had responded to my comment about how this website could be differentiated from IMDb and I had forgotten the biggest thing, the message boards. That is why we are all here.

reply

Yes you better believe it and you better stay. We're going to continue as if IMDb never shut down. We have all the messages after all damn it! Please stay.

reply

"Yes you better believe it and you better stay. We're going to continue as if IMDb never shut down. We have all the messages after all damn it! Please stay. "

I love it here and it is easy and simple in the way that IMDb was.....
I wouldn't mind it staying simple and somehow better than IMDb.

reply

IMDb was the only site I have dedicated to for more than 10 plus years, like everyone else mentioned before all the hard work they have put in those forum topics, ratings and reviews just all gone. Just imagine what it be like if Facebook decide to shut it all down-years and years of memories and friends are all lost. But I'm excited to be here and I hope this site is a major success, and everyone from IMDb find there way here.

reply

I first heard the name watching "Tombstone" and just liked it. When I looked him up on Wikipedia, I read this nugget:

"When asked about why he was called Texas Jack, he replied 'Because I'm from Virginia.'"

So he rolled with Wyatt Earp AND was a huge wiseass? Sounds like my kind of dude.

Did not have this name on IMDb where I mainly lurked.

So, OP, what's the story behind "babestation"?

reply

I have a hunch that he is either a chick magnet or he watches a lot of On Demand porn.

Kidding!

But it was just speculation. lol

reply

Well my name is a regretful mistake. It was a temporary gaming name I had, inspired by the 80s era where cassettes and radios were a thing (I love the 80s). Babe in the sense that I'm female, vivacious and maybe a bit of a shameless minx sometimes as I can be overly candid, and 'station' signifying a destination to tune into or to arrive at. It's shallow and stupid but the only reason why I used it on here was because I needed something quick to just log in and see what all the fuss is about in here, and didn't plan on even sticking around.

And now I'm stuck in here, and stuck with this name. At face value I know everyone is thinking I'm a stuck up hoe bag. Life is good.

reply

Haha, I love it. I have a feeling most are thinking you are vivacious and high spirited. :)

reply

It's a cool name, no reason for regrets. If you need an alter ego, "ShamelessMinx" has a nice ring to it...and then you could use "StuckUpHoeBag" strictly for shitposting πŸ˜€

The 80s were great but I sure dont miss cassettes...

reply

Gasp! My sister and I had a big clunky brown Fisher Price cassette player that wore out Michael Jackson's Off the Wall tape.

reply

"At face value I know everyone is thinking I'm a stuck up hoe bag." Not at all!
