Six people dead after an "offender" engaged in a mass stabbing at a shopping center in suburban Sydney. The perp was finally dispatched by Australian police, who have more time on their hands now that they don't have to arrest moms for Facebook posts that violate Covid restrictions or for not wearing a mask.

Police are being very coy about describing the attacker, and all Australian news outlets posting videos to Youtube have turned off their comments (except Sky News), so draw your own inferences from that. Just more cultural enrichment by a future scientist or doctor.

If you were a betting man, given the complete silence regarding the attacker from the authorities in Australia, what do you think is most likely his background?

We've seen this play out time after time. If there's no description or we get some anodyne description like "youth" or "man", 9 times out of 10 you can stake your last quid on it being one of the protected classes.

I think you’re missing the point of the OP. I don’t think people are asking officials to rush to speculate about motives or “background” (whatever that means). It’s that people get annoyed at the curious reluctance to reveal the arrested guy’s race and name that we don’t seem to see except when it’s a race to which the media and government are overly sensitive

How many times have we seen a victim described as black in the mainstream media headline news despite zero evidence race had anything to do with what happened to them. Right now, it's Dexter Reed in America. A big national story in the UK was a black boy bullied in Carlisle. No evidence them being black had anything to do with it.
