Mass stabbing in Australia

Six people dead after an "offender" engaged in a mass stabbing at a shopping center in suburban Sydney. The perp was finally dispatched by Australian police, who have more time on their hands now that they don't have to arrest moms for Facebook posts that violate Covid restrictions or for not wearing a mask.

Police are being very coy about describing the attacker, and all Australian news outlets posting videos to Youtube have turned off their comments (except Sky News), so draw your own inferences from that. Just more cultural enrichment by a future scientist or doctor.

Easiest solution is to say, MENTAL HEALTH! Why did we do away with all the asylum hospitals around the world again?

"turned off their comments (except Sky News), so draw your own inferences from that"

I conclude they did that because the comments were full of white supremacy propaganda like this thread.
Also it turns out he's a pure white aryan superman like yourself.

NOting that liberal governments don't like to admit when their policies fail and get their people killed,

is not "white supremacy".

Indeed, this IS still a related issue, because the hesitation to lock up crazy people for the safety of normal people AND the safty of the crazy person, and to let them build up into large populations on teh streets, is a policy decision of these governments.

I think all governments left & right got rid of actual "asylums" due to cost and human rights concerns , opting for "care in the community" which is in no way a proper solution.

The police in the UK used to do a lot to help with possibly dangerous mental health patients , now the people in charge decided that was a waste of police time , so now they have to wait until the crime is committed

I can't speak for right wing governments in others countries on this issue,

but here in America that round of cost cutting was a LONG time ago now, and we have had a LOT of people and administrations since then to address the results of that, who have failed to do so,

so it seems...odd to put too much of the focus on them, so long ago.

reply

long time ago in the uk too . (just googled it -80s)
subsequent Govs of both sides have just left the policy unchanged as " the least bad option" i'm guessing

reply

When I hear the issue discussed at all, the push back I get/hear is based more on liberal... ideas of NOT locking up people just for being crazy and very little if any discussion of old school conservative cost cutting.

I think that conservatives have seen the results of the policy and are more willing or at least less likely to raise cost issues.

Well, that didn't take long. Just a few hours ago, another stabbing in Australia. This one perpetrated by a jihadist on the bishop of a Christian sect as he stood at the pulpit preaching. Video of the incident can be found online if you're so inclined, and it's not pretty. Looks like the victim will survive, thank God. Some reports are that riots are ensuing.
