Does every film now need some anti-male commentary?

Every second film I watch has some 'men are bad' statement to make. I'm beyond fed up of it all.

This film just had to have (SPOILERS BELOW);

- The head chef have a history of pressuring his staff to have sex with him. This lead to the whole 'mans folly' course where all the men get chased and the women sit inside chilling and bonding.

- That old dude who cheated on his wife, he had to be some pervy dude with a daughter watching him masturbate fetish.

- Tyler (Margots date) being a complete asshole. Demeaning her in one scene with her telling him he can't speak to her like that. Felt like a #SlayQueen moment for the misandrist viewers to cheer for her. Also he brought her there knowing she'd be killed, so she got to punch him in the face. The crowd goes wild! #SlayQueen

- You even had the whole Margot being a poor prostitute (that was the implication?) sub-plot. Like Last Night in Soho (2021). Prostitutes are helpless victims of the evils of men now, but on on the other hand some people try tell us that sex workers are stunning and brave and deserve all the respect and rights in the world. So are they fierce and self employed queens or poor 'rape' victims? I'm confused.

- The chefs mother was a victim of domestic abuse.

I swear you need to have this shit in your screenplay to get the film greenlit.

Tbh, I didn't even notice the pattern until you pointed it out. I just saw a bunch of shitty ppl, but I didn't really think about their gender or anything at the time.

The man's folly meal was obviously gendered, but it's specific to the head chef's own schtick.

Also, I don't think the movie was suggesting that Margot was a victim. She was just poor and worked to serve others. She felt pretty confident with herself.

I'm on high alert for this stuff because I notice it in every second film I watch these days. It's very played out.

As soon as I notice the gears turning for the 'men are sick perverts who victimize women' statement, I can only roll my eyes.

I genuinely think having stuff like this in your film helps get it greenlit post #MeToo.

I do agree with you on that. I feel that that's the case. And even if it's not the case, I'm sure filmmakers and producers THINK that's the case. And so, it is. lol

Here I think i'm okay though because, like I could imagine that this movie exists in a different time and place, and the movie would still feel organic.

But there's movies now that may inject a combination of stunt casting and forced dialogue, and it feels off now let alone when you rewatch it in 20 years.

To be fair, there are people that exaggerate this “anti male” narrative but then you have folks that deny there is a large sweeping anti-male theme in many movies and tv. It’s very unfortunate

I acutally saw it as a parody of feminism, as the man-hating themes were so over the top it became laughable. This was underlined by the fact that the female cook who stabbed Finnes in the thigh, was also revealed to be the one who proudly exclaims that she "was the one who came up with the idea of everyone dying", which perfectly encapsulates what feminism is all about.

No movie could ever be re-watched if "spoilers" were a real thing. It's just a cutesy term used by some posters to add significance (they think) to their post. Plot is the least significant thing about a movie, or any piece of lit, for that matter. It's the "how," not the "what," that counts. An ever-so-interesting plot will not be watchable if the acting or production is bad. Grow up! See if you can respond to the argument and not go low via personal attacks!
