The *SPOILER* cameo was lame

Seriously? Bring back Qui Gon and he's only in it for 10 seconds and gets like two lines? I would have rather they just not bring him back at all if it was going to be that pointless.

reply

Agreed, never been a big fan of Qui Gon (or The Phantom Menace overall). But they could've at least done him justice here, what a waste. Felt totally forced and poorly inserted into the episode. Would've worked much better before a big crisis when he really needed him, with some type of sage advice or reveal.

reply

Exactly, the same way the original trilogy used Ben/Obi Wan to help Luke before going into something “big”.

In fact it would’ve tied in nicely with the way Obi Wan would do it in the “future”.

reply

You wanted Qui Gon to remind Obi Wan to use the force? Jeez louise!

In ESB, Ben didn't help Luke in a crisis. He appeared AFTER Luke had just achieved something without any training (move his lightsaber in the Wampa cave) and told him where he needed to go for more training (why couldn't ghost Obi Wan just train him?). But he did all this as he was freezing to death. It just so happened that Han came along and rescued him not long after.

All Luke and Ben do in their other two meetings is argue with each other and Ben dumping more exposition again.

reply

It was especially strange because he just says 'yeah, I've always been here, bye.'

His cameo would have made more sense if he revealed himself to Obi-Wan when he was trapped under the rubble.

reply

He doesn't say bye. He tells Obi Wan to follow him on their journey.

Why would it make more sense when he was trapped in rubble? To be the deus ex machina in OWK beating Vader? Oh great. I can imagine the nerd rage that would have produced from all the screenwriting experts.

Obi Wan being able to see and hear Qui Gon at the end is the reward for him facing up to his failure with Anakin. To becoming reconnected with the living force and not preoccupied with his past, or with the future, which will sort itself out.

reply

No, your right. Far better to have the deus ex Machina of... because he felt better and that's why he won so easily.

reply

How a Jedi performs has everything to do with how they feel. Have you been paying attention?

reply

So you agree, Obi-Wan feeling things without motivation is dumb.

reply

Seeing how Leia is growing up and remembering that Luke is also still a hope for the future isn't motivation?

Have you never seen, read or experienced a story where someone's outlook is clouded for a while by circumstance, and then their renewed motivation and hope for their existing mission enables them to overcome those same circumstances?

reply

Yes, but it's always instigated by something.

Here, it's just... a thing that happened.

Also, how is Luke a hope for the future? The force isn't hereditary. He's just a kid. Given that Obi-Wan thinks Anakin is dead, I'm not even sure why he's watching over him.

reply

Instigated by the sense that this is not his time to die and that he has a job to do still.

reply

"Seeing how Leia is growing up and remembering that Luke is also still a hope for the future isn't motivation?"

Why wasn't sister Leia creeped out that Luke initially wanted sex and to upon her blow his load?

reply

It was my favorite scene in the series

reply

It was a fucking cameo. Its meant to be no more than a few lines. Wtf did you expect?? It was just to show that Obi Wan finally was in contact with Qui Gon. It tied nicely to ROTS. Plus Liam Nesson was smart not to get involved too much so he doesnt have to listen to the stupid shit fans bitch about...

reply

Liam Nesson charges 50 grand for every word he speaks on screen. Disney had to make it a quick appearance

reply

^This. It made total sense and it was necessary.

Some of these “fans” are just morons.
