So, like, wtf happened after the girl went up?...

I hate this new trend in movies of just not having an ending, because they want you to think about it and interpret the ending in your own way, or talk to other people and ask how they perceived the ending and what they believe is the "meaning" behind it. What a crock of shit. How about NO? How about you include the fucking ending in the movie? How about we resolve the last 2 hours we invested our time to?

This movie was great, 10/10, right up to the credits. I literally said "What? That's it? Awwwwh fuck this shit"

I change my vote to 1/10 because of this god awful pathetic excuse of an ending.

And of course anyone that goes online and rants and raves about these movies with no ending, is back-lashed with "You didn't understand it, honey" or "Your brain just can't comprehend the meaningfulness behind it" or just "You're stupid". Nah. I'm not stupid. This ending is.

I agree with you 100% Trev, although I would rate it a 3 or 4. If it had a more definitive ending maybe an 8. I too am tired of the vogue of inconclusive endings, and this one is probably the worst I've come across. I realize that the movie is a total allegory and I got some of the communist vs. capitalist and greed vs. unselfishness themes from the movie, but "The girl is the message" didn't seem to say one damn thing, or it could be twisted to mean anything--and I wasn't about to spend too much time worrying about it because, after all, these people just make movies and are not exactly the philosophical geniuses of the 21st century.

I don't see anything wrong with filmmakers wanting to encourage discussion of their work, or people talking about the meaning behind said work. Plus, isn't that the whole point in joining a movie discussion website?

I wasn't a fan of the end either, but the movie did have an end. It did conclude the journey of the main character. He sent the girl up and died: the end.

We don't know much about how and why the hole operates anyway, so what good would it have been to know what happened after the girl went up?

Because once you know what happens after she goes up, you do find out about how and why the hole operates. All of your morbid curiosity is fulfilled and your questions get answered. Instead, END CREDITS.

You ask what happened to the girl, saying the movie needed to wrap up her fate to provide an “ending.”

That the movie didn’t show what happened to her is the point, imo. Her fate isn’t the movie: the movie is about the guy who stayed at the bottom. We know what happens to him (he dies), so his fate is the “ending.” He’s the main character. You’re supposed to dwell on his decision to stay behind and save her.

I like some ambiguous endings but this one was just dumb.
It left way too many unanswered questions.

How was the platform moving? Why were we seeing weird clips of the kitchen staff if we were never going to learn what was happening?
Who would choose to go in there? How do they move them monthly? What happened when the girl reached the top?

I feel like I could go on forever......

I find itbhilsrious that the OP thinks its a new trend. Its been done many times before.

Go back and look at the ending for the original The Italian Job, which was made in the 60s for example.
