What is it about the evil empire? Why do they keep coming back?

I noticed they threw in some lines from that vile officer in the "mess hall" that sound like could have been spoken by Mao where he is talking about how no one wants freedom they want order. Empires tout that they believe in peace when all they really do is cause chaos but justify their existence that when they fall chaos ensues. So it is like we get the Nazis, and then we're starting to see fascism rise once again today with the supporters of the narcissist who lost the election. What is it with evil, what makes it so appealing to some and why does it have to keep getting stopped?

reply

It was kind of a weird scene. It was like Hollywood was saying get ready for the Nazis to come back. If you're a paranoid conspiracy theorist, scenes like that jump right out at ya. I do think something like the Empire is the only thing that could hold a galaxy together. You would need a strong fist to keep all them alien civilizations in line. For the most part, I bet you could live your whole life without seeing a single stormtrooper. The universe is just crazy too big.

reply

"paranoid conspiracy theorist" Or just someone who is mildly aware of history. This theme/propaganda was in the Chinese movie "Hero" with Jet Lee if you might remember.

"I do think something like the Empire is the only thing that could hold a galaxy together."

Now you're saying it. The galaxy doesn't need to be held together, it can peacefully coexist without an empire running torment all over it.

reply

That wasn't what was showcased with the CHAZ/CHOP zones, which completely fulfilled the promise of people needing order lest they fall victim to wanton violence and chaos.

reply

Star Wars would be much more believable if the Empire were Chinese and Darth Mao was the leader.

reply

That's what the Empire represents anyway. It did to Lucas; it represents fascism and that's why the ISB resembles Nazis.

reply

Who's the empire IRL?

reply

Republicans.

reply

Why is that?

reply

Unlimited power.

reply

What makes you think Republicans want unlimited power?

reply

How they protect Trump as if he were Lord Vader himself. And those who refuse are labeled rebels and traitors.

reply

What does that got to do with unlimited power?

reply

No more checks and balances! Geez...

reply

Specifically?

reply

You haven't noticed that they have stolen at least 2 elections since 2000 and are trying to steal the current one? (More Americans voted for Gore and Clinton yet somehow it went to Bush and Trump respectively). You didn't notice they created the Patriot Act and NSA to have total control and surveillance over all of us?

reply

What on earth does more Americans got to do with it? All states in the United States of America have 2 senators/electors and at least 1 member of the House/elector, regardless of population size. I.e. it's the candidate with the most electors who wins the presidency, i.e. has absolutely nothing to do with popular vote nationally.

Can you guarantee there is no fraud in the current election?

Republicans specifically?

reply

He can't. He's been watching too much CNN.

LOTS of fraud have taken place. Dominion voting machines have been unable to replicate honest election-day results when primed to recount in Coffee County in Georgia, hence a new investigation opened up:

https://www.wrdw.com/2020/12/10/georgia-election-officials-investigate-problems-with-coffee-county-recount/

There was also the case of 40,000 people allegedly voting twice in Nevada:
https://www.theepochtimes.com/trump-team-claims-40000-people-voted-twice-in-nevada-to-file-lawsuit_3602039.html

And that's not even getting into multiple USPS workers filing affidavits about missing trucks filled with ballots, or back-dating ballots post November 3rd:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEU6owG2Gjo&lc=Ugx8toYkCKd0AenI9Xh4AaABAg&ab_channel=TheNewsJunkie%27sCartoons

That's just a few examples from DOZENS of voting and election irregularities that have cropped up, ALL of them censored by Facebook, Twitter, and social media, and almost all of them scrubbed from Google.

Ask yourself this: if this is all conspiracy theory and there's nothing irregular about the election, why is Big Tech going to such lengths to censor all of this news and information and why are Democrats so intent on prohibiting independent investigations, audits, and transparent recounts?

reply

How is this difficult to understand? Go look up the 14 Characteristics of Fascism. To shorten it, it's all about symbol waving, nationalism masquerading as patriotism and hatred of those different from you like immigrants etc., overarching control, total surveillance, a central demagogue and out of control government (ie. federal agents stomping out protestors).

reply

The empire wants to rule the galaxy, republicans want to rule over themselves? Immigrants who enter/stay in the country illegally? It seems to me it's the Democrats/left that are more controlling of people/speech etc? Cracking down on rioters/arsonists/looters etc, what's wrong with that?

reply

As it happens we know very little about the Empire. Sure, there's a religious conflict between the Sith and the Jedi and it was as crazy as all religious conflicts are but apart from that we only see the imperial armed forces operating in the Outer Rim fighting rebels.
It's quite possible these were 18 years of prosperity, security and freedom for the rest of the Galaxy.

reply

No, it's been pretty well established that the Empire was repressive and no one was happy living under them. They ruled through fear.

reply

Not in the movies.

reply

In the very first movie, they built a Death Star and specifically mentioned that the systems would be kept in line through fear.

reply

Well we know the Empire likes to destroy entire civilizations (planets). That's about all we need to know about them.

reply

We see them destroying a planet. Considering the scale it's like demolishing a house belonging to a clan of an ISIS fighter to discourage villagers to join jihadis.

reply

So killing innocents is justified to discourage others who might not be?

reply

Jesus fuck, can't a guy troll in peace?

reply

Guess not.

I've just read a few books on this subject about why Fascism is supported by people. One third of people have an authoritarian personality trait. They tend to be more fearful and want protection by a strong man leader from the "scary world". They're comfortable with people like themselves and diversity makes them uncomfortable. They don't question authority. Certain conditions in society will make it more appealing like an increase in diversity or immigration, poverty whereby they'll scapegoat a group, which is happening now.

A social experiment was conducted in which they had about 60 authoritarian personality trait college students control the world compared to the least authoritarian personality group. The latter group worked together to solve global problems and help each other. The authoritarian group waged war and nuked the planet killing everyone.

"Authoritarian Nightmare" book explains the experiment, authoritarian personality trait, why it exists, their support of Fascism and why it happens at certain times. It also explains why the Republican Party has grown more authoritarian.
