Underage blowjob

What's the statement being made in this movie about the blowjob offer turned down by Cliff?

1-He's too cool for a skank like that one
2-He's really conscious about legal problems with the possibility she's underage
3-He's gay
4-He's a real man, thus doesn't need this sort of "favors" from easy trashy little girls
5-He's taking a stand against Polanski's depravity/weakness and his statutory rape

EDIT:
I forgot to add, 6-He thinks she's not gonna be good at it

reply

Just finished reading the novelization(an enjoyable read,) and I'm gonna go with #2...

reply

Really? What happens there?

reply

The scene plays out pretty much like in the movie, but because it's told from his perspective, you get the sense that he's genuinely concerned about the fact that she's underage...

reply

That is interesting.
Who wrote it?

reply

QT

reply

Well then it is the official answer meant by the author.

So what does Cliff think exactly?
I'm asking mainly to understand if there is any hint against Polanski, since he is concerned about her age.

reply

Nothing like that, which is historically accurate as Polanski's problems in that department were still eight years in the future...

Cliff's response to Pussycat(who has just removed her pants)

"What I'm too old to do is go to jail for poontang. Prison has tried to get me my whole life. But it ain't ever got me yet. But the day is does get me, it ain't gonna be because of you. No offense."

It's a good read, definitely worth it for any fan of the movie...

reply

Cliff doesn't have to know about Polanski's rape charge to comment on it.
I didn't mean specifically naming Polanski, just a direct comment by QT about his situation.
Which it kinda sounds like he could be hinting at that:
Polanski had a troubled life since he was a kid, and he survived many trials that tried to get him his whole life.
But he did finally get gotten exactly because of underage poontang.
So, differently to the swinging director (who in OUATIH is clearly enjoying his celebrity life and looks a bit corrupted already), Cliff stays on the straight path and never falls off of it. Certainly, he does not fall for that.

reply

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that, but it's certainly a valid interpretation...

reply

Or Brad Pitt is lame.

reply

I think his character was the opposite of lame.

reply

I agree, Cliff is the epitome of awesomeness!

reply

The hairy armpits turned him off.

reply

Ahah, good one!

I was strongly turned off by her mannerisms.
She kept licking her own face, it looked so stupid and artificial. And that whole spunky dance she performs before getting in the car was revoltingly forced. I would have driven away after such phoney show.

reply

Have you seen the commercial she's in? She's kissing some guy who looks so much like her he could be her twin brother.

reply

99% of men would not have turned her down.

reply

More accurately, 99% of ignoble dumb phukks would not have turned her down.

Men like Cliff, however, have no problem turning her down.

reply

You are aware that Cliff is not a real person right? And the fictional character Cliff uses straight legalistic logic not morality for turning her down.

The girl playing the role was 25 at the time. And yes most men if they could not get caught by their wife or girlfriends or whomever would have said hell yes. She is beautiful.

reply

Cliff is as real as you and me.
You think he turns her down because of legal reasons.
I think he is not fine with the whole deal, including moral aspects, and legal ones are just an excuse.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She looks ok, but her attitude, style and sluttyness make her ugly to me.
I would turn her down too.

reply

Well said.

reply

I wanted to add other scenes where we are reminded of the “real man” persona of the Cliff Booth character in contrast to Polanski.

There is a very short scene where Polanski walks out to his pool with a cocktail seeming very irritated and throws a ball to get his small dog to leave him alone. I think at that moment we are, like the underage hitchhiker scene, supposed to compare the two.

reply

So we are reading the mind of a fictional character in a film?

His own reasons for not accepting her offer was he did not want to see jail. He makes no moral argument and he could have dropped her off at the ranch but got out with her.

Stop making moral judgements about movie characters. QT cannot depict one of his leading characters having sex with an under age girl.

reply

Technically speaking, you can depict an underage character sleeping with an older man or woman as long as the underage character is not actually underage, it's legal. QT could have shot a sex scene between the two of'em.

In fact, plenty of movies out there have a scene like this. But you are correct, Cliff gives no moral reasons, just legal reasons.

And like I said in my reply from page two of this thread, I do find it kind of funny that he acted like he wanted to possibly get it on with her when he saw her on the street corner but when it came right down to it, he turned her down.

And yeah, I doubt very many guys would kick her out of bed even if she is underage.

reply

Because the wife killer Cliff turns out to be the nominal hero of the movie, some people are desperate to describe other things that Cliff does as virtuous and affirmation of their "real man" credentials.

Cliff just doesn't want to go to jail. Again. But people seeking a daddy figure are clutching at straws to paint him as their role model figure.

reply

The actress who played that role was in her 20s and looked it. So most men would have said yes

reply

Number two of course. Girls like her are called jailbait for a reason. She doesn't have to report you. Anyone that sees you doing untoward with an underage girl can report you and you won't be get a few days in jail. You will serious prison time and even when you get out, will have that "sex offender" tag for the rest of your life. Don't

reply

Ok but in that period of time, in his car, with that girl, and just a bj...come on. What are the real chances of anybody reporting it?
Or anybody believing said report and actuality charging him? Over a hippie chick? Who was probably fucking everybody everywhere?

Polanski was in trouble for drugging and wining and fucking the girl, and her mom reporting it.
A bj in a car sounds (and is) like something SHE did of her own free will, and I wonder if back then was even considered rape sex.

reply

I think he is old enough to have seen people get busted for such things. He is too experienced to fall for such games.

reply

I think it was meant to make Pitt’s character seem more heroic and upstanding, and it further demonstrates the depravity of the manson cult
